  1. Ridgewood School District is behind Fairlawn?? Don’t try to sugarcoat by comparing Rwg with Mahwah or Ramsey. We should be comparing with Chatham, Millburn, Summit.
And RHS at 26th shows no improvement. We’re still lagging in 26th place. Tradition of Excellence should mean improvement year over year not trying to hang tight to the ‘respectful” 26th place.

  2. When I moved in 25 years ago, Ridgewood was always a top 10 school district. It’s why I chose to move here.

  3. Well not anymore, it’s changed for a lower number. That’s why I moved out. See you.

  4. Right it’s not the 80’s any more.

  5. If you go to the actual site, you will see that the HS is A+ for Academics, A+College Prep and A+Athletics.
Where we lost points is Diversity (B) and facilities (A-). https://www.niche.com/k12/ridgewood-high-school-ridgewood-nj/

If the ranking of the HS is the goal, then we should all support building more apartments and the upcoming school bond to upgrade the facilities.

  6. I can only fantasize how magnificent this place may have been in the 80s. I Imagine a beautiful, quiet village, super clean and orderly, where neighbors were cordial and friendly and people respected each other, where residents shopped in downtown and just shrugged off any 10 minute delay to find a parking spot, where residents greeted each other in the streets, when you could sometime forget the house or car door open at night and not being told by some genius that “if someone violates your property it is your fault”, when people were more concerned with their family well being than that of the world, when they elected politicians they really trusted, when local government was as frugal with costs as they were in their family, when kids in schools were taught science and math and not pulled into ugly politics of different colors and brainwashed with socialist ideas, when USA flag was the only visible flag and people were proud of it, when people moved here to live the Ridgewood village life and not try to bring the NYC way of life and try to impose it to everybody else, when giggling about someone’s way of life wasn’t a a crime etc etc. Those who lived here are welcome to tell me if and how wrong I am.

  7. Yes, but they have those lovely graduation ceremonies.

  8. But we are in stage II water conservation status

  9. Can you say overrated. I think Glenrock has a better school system

  10. For 2/3 of our tax bill RHS should be in the top 10.

  11. The good all days of the Village of Ridgewood are gone. The whole town changed. The CBD looks run down. All those red pavers they put between the curb and the sidewalk are all crumbling causing havoc people tripping getting hurt lawsuits. They all should be wrapped up and poured concrete to replace them. Cottage Street parking lot is a disgrace, Walnut Street parking lot is so far gone that needs to be reconstructed. Cottage St., Walnut St., Oakstreet, in the CBD need to be repaved how come it’s not being done Mr. Mayor. Those areas are in terrible shape beyond Normal repairs it needs to be reconstructed they are shot. Thank you

  12. Brian – Shorthills is rated #1. Do you really think they are diverse?
As far as the school bond – the board wants a blank check.

  13. If memory serves Ridgewood High School is relatively unique in its ability to compete in these sorts of rankings while at the same time having 400 plus students per grade. Other schools teND to be relatively small and/or specialized. So in any given year a very respectably large chunk of the best qualified graduating seniors in the state of New Jersey hits the street, stamped “Made in Ridgewood”.

  14. Northern Highlands is a great school, Ramapo is up there to. What’s a great about Ridgewood.

  15. Maybe we need to implement more Social Justice curriculum.

  16. In the late 70’s a politically active Russian taught American history at the high school. And the Nucleonics class was taught by a sub who never bothered to get the radiation badges necessary to teach the course. So previous years were not perfect, just a lot better than things are now. Then the concern was for actual education while now it is solely window dressing so that we have high prestige. Windows and toilets before education. The feeling seems to be that “the more money we spend, the higher our education level will be.”
