Ridgewood NJ, April 15th is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, so some RHS students in Mrs. Anderson’s Statistics with Finance course learned about filing taxes and completed a 1040 form activity, using either their own W2 or a sample W2 to file their 2023 tax return!

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was created in 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln and Congress during the Civil War. Initially established as the Bureau of Internal Revenue, its primary purpose was to fund the war effort through the collection of income taxes. Over time, the agency’s responsibilities expanded to include enforcing tax laws, processing tax returns, and providing taxpayer assistance. Today, the IRS operates under the Department of the Treasury and is responsible for administering the federal tax laws of the United States.
