Ridgewood Landlord Say Residents Taxes are Too Low

Village Council Meeting

The business owner speaking here, Ed Sullivan, owner of 17-29 Chestnut St in the Village, spent 5 minutes citing a 1967 traffic study and then telling residents their taxes were too low.

Impressive strategy… if you want to make sure no one ever frequents your properties again.

Referencing data from 1967 is interesting. But not relevant. Not a single reference to the Internet which of course wasn’t publicly available in ’67. The Internet, as we know now, changed everything for businesses that used to rely on people going into a store and purchasing something.

In person shopping is an anachronism.

The taxpayers (read: homeowners) should not have to bear any burden associated with failing businesses.

Ed’s wrong…things have drastically changed in 48+ years.

  1. We are indeed at a crossroads..

    As above

taxpayers (read: homeowners) should not have to bear any burden associated with failing businesses.

Suggest we put simple second decks on existing 3 main parking lots and be DONE with this .if this fails to solve the issue study why and at that point Internet shopping Development will have either run its course or demonstrated a core change in long term shopping and parking demand..as well as Uber and self driving Car outcomes..run a trolley from the Pool area spring and summer.

  2. The businesses at that location should seek a rent decrease as I imagine the intemperate remarks of their landlord will be costing them business.

  3. Ed Sullivan, quite a guy! And he is not a homeowner in Ridgewood!

  4. What business does Ed Sullivan run?

  5. A rare cockroach that likes the light !

  6. I would also like to know what business Ed Sullivan runs

  7. He is a landlord. Owns the building that Roots rents. I believe that he is not a resident, which is why he probably thinks that our taxes are too low.

  8. Hey Ed, there are roughly 8,100 residential properties in Ridgewood and 400 commercial properties in Ridgewood (check it out with the assessor). Who do you really think is paying the lions share of the annual real estate taxes?

  9. The commercial properties equate to 8-11 % of the tax revenue. I don’t know what he was talking about. But, at the end of the night when he spoke again, after listening to the residents, said he recognized that this garage was not perfect and he understood the concerns. Then asked public to get involved in the process, come together and make suggestions. He is Chamber President and listened to people, and was moved. Better than our own council.

  10. o k ed.

  11. Why did Ed get to speak twice? Why did he adress the residents as if he is on the council?

  12. @451 – – yes, he did turn to the town and suggest a committee. He was then quickly told to shut up by the Mayor.

  13. This guy is the ultimate CREEP.

  14. After blend he left it empty for a long time .thatd his fault, how many times were the law enforcements required to babysit any problems associated with a liquor license, remember the patrons when it was rented to the “Russian White House ” and “all American sports bar”
