Ridgewood NJ, Scottie Scheffler, the reigning World No. 1 golfer, clinched victory over Collin Morikawa in the  2024 Masters Tournament at Augusta National, securing his second Masters title and a hefty $3.6M prize.

Born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, on June 21, 1996, Scheffler hails from a family with roots in Englewood Cliffs and Park Ridge. He is the lone son among four siblings, his father, Scott, a product of Englewood’s St. Cecilia High School.

In contrast, last year’s champion, Jon Rahm, currently ranked No. 3 globally, found himself struggling, finishing nine over par and tying for 45th place. Meanwhile, golf legend Tiger Woods faced his own challenges, enduring one of the toughest tournaments of his illustrious career, concluding with his lowest professional score over four days.

However, beyond individual performances, the sport faces a pivotal moment in terms of organization and viewership. Tensions between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league remain unresolved after last year’s attempted merger, leading to divided opportunities for top-tier players. Additionally, notable tournaments have witnessed a concerning decline in viewership, with recent invitationals experiencing a significant year-over-year drop of over 30%.

  1. Couldn’t make the Maroon Golf Team in high school so the family moved to Dallas burb.

  2. Was never a resident of Ridgewood, was only born at Valley Hospital like thousands and thousands of other people. Twenty years from now we will be hearing about famous people from Paramus now that Valley has moved.
