Ridgewood’s (81) neighbor Oradell was named the number one place to raise a family in New Jersey and Hoboken which seems to be the model of our current council majority’s vision for Ridgewood’s future came in dead last at 508. Other towns that Ridgewood seems to be looking to for guidance Englewood came in 483, and Hackensack 422.
Along with Oradell other Bergen towns ;River Edge (13), Harrington Park (15),Closter (17), Old Tappan (18) , Upper Saddle River (29), and Glen Rock (30) all did quite well.

Yes, Oradell, River Edge, Harrington Park other Bergen County towns are way ahead of Ridgewood, without the “heartbeat” of a central business district. What does that tell me. I don’t give a damn about those stores and neither does anyone else except the store owners and the Three Amigos.
What about there taxes without a CBD. They are lower, a little but significant. Who needs a CBD.
Is there any chance the over developments can be repealed, minimized?
When the 3 Amigos get done with this town we will be competing for last place with Hoboken. This progress according to some.
Let’s hope they take one more poll before the next 10 years of construction starts. After that look for us to finish right below Hackensack.
And what do residents of all those so called great nearby towns do on the weekends? Nothing in their shitty little towns. They come to Ridgewood, eat at our restaurants and drop their kids off so they’ll actually have something to do before going back to their neighborhood that offers nothing to anyone who isn’t behind the wheel of a car.
I looked at houses in Oradell and Glen Rock, and am more than happy with my decision to buy in Ridgewood. NJ Magazine can keep their survey…any survey that ranks Oradell #1 and Ridgewood #83 is complete and utter nonsense.
10:02am – Exactly…
10:02, you need to go outside your CDB and see for yourself. It’s a huge world out there.
The towns (Oradell, Westwood, Dumont, etc.) organized around or to the east of Kinderkamack Road are quite physically isolated and hard to get to with the lack of highway access. Don’t think that would be so great from a quality of life perspective.
Yes, exactly 1002 – – and as our quality of life goes down and our taxes go up with the overdevelopment, they will continue to come her eon the weekend and enjoy lunch. at our expense..
River Edge has wonderful Van Saun Park with a children’s zoo. I used to take my kids there. I love it myself and that train ride. And I have lived here for decades.
I hate the restaurant environment here. Much healthier to avoid the fat trap as the expert doctors tell you including Valley doctors and cook at home most of the time, and invite friends over. That’s the preferred style according to the experts too.
Ridgewood has become restaurant row. Ugh.
As the saying goes: When you overpay on theater tickets and the show isn’t that great you clap and cheer real loudly. Same as paying too much to live in Ridgewood and high taxes and realizing that kids become great professionals in great schools from towns like Oradell and River Edge and taxes and houses less expensive.
10:02 and the other ‘development’ freaks need to look at Newark, Paterson etc – they were all ‘developed’ once upon a time during the industrial age.
This is 10:02. I am not a development freak, 11:07. I like the town pretty much the way it is: a nice balance between urban and rural. 10:51: I know Bergen county like the back of my hand, and there’s no place else in BC that I’d want to live. As for getting out more, I’d bet I’ve seen as much of the world as you have, if not more.
Going out to lunch is NOT Doing something. Going out to lunch is what grownups and kids do who have nothing going
on in their life. Active kids and adults pursue hobbies on the weekend either formally or informally.
Eating lunch in a restaurant and considering that an activity is what causes the obesity epidemic and it”s bad parenting. Active kids make healthy adults. All the smart parents have kids who are developing interests and don’t look forward to stuffing their faces and increasing the size of their butts on the weekends.
Smart people , the real movers and shakers, eat to live not the other way around, And believe me those people can be found in River Edge and Oradell.
You just don’t get it 11:59. it’s painfully obvious from your rants that you hate it here, your property is underwater and your plain old screwed. Urban and Rural? Really? The Duck Pond is rural is it? Sook is urban? And like anyone in Ridgewood is not behind the wheel of a car…driving like a banshee. And yes were sure your a world traveler…that’s why your on the Ridgewood Blog pissing vinegar on anyone who’s just a little different than you. Now pick up your toys and go home.
Not to worry, after the parking garage is completed we will be safely out of the “top 100”.
.
.. and after the low income high density housing (and the added crime from it and the parking garage) we will be safely out of the top 250…
Oradell is a great town… other than not having its own HS
They live in a nice town without congestion. They use Ridgewood when they want to go out to dinner. The Ridgewood residents put up with this weekend congestion. Great $$ for the restaurants.
I did not move to Ridgewood for the restaurants.
The numbers speak for themselves. 10:02 “urban and rural”? That’s not a village. You’re part of the problem, not the other thing.
Stop calling Ridgewood a “Village”…get with the program. Ridgewood stopped being a “Village” years ago.
