Ridgewood NJ, Late Thursday evening, 10/31, a family residing in the 600 block of Newcomb Road, Ridgewood was unloading groceries from their minivan when an unfamiliar large German Shepherd dog jumped through an open sliding door of the van and sat down on the back seat. The family ran into their home and telephoned Ridgewood Police for assistance.
Responding Ridgewood Police Patrol Officers Douglas Christopher and Zachary Knudsen successfully transitioned the dog from the minivan to the back seat of a nearby marked patrol vehicle. Shortly after taking the animal into custody, a resident from less than 1/2 mile away called police dispatchers to report that his German Shepherd dog Mikey was missing. Mikey and his very grateful master were reunited shortly thereafter, without Mikey having to complete an unpleasant overnight stay at the pound. Another nice outcome courtesy of Ridgewood Police’s Patrol Division.

Three years later and Mikey is still very grateful for getting home safe.
