Sextant: An instrument for measuring angular distances used especially in navigation to observe altitudes of celestial bodies (as in ascertaining latitude and longitude).
It seems fitting that Lynn Clay Byrne chose to name her first book “The Sextant” – given that her life has unexpectedly changed direction several times.
Shortly after college and marriage, the Ridgewood resident put her career on hold when she gave birth to the couple’s first child, Patrick. Over the next 25 years, their family grew with six more children – some born to the couple, and some adopted.
When her youngest child started elementary school, Byrne started writing her book, “and I asked Patrick to be the editor. I knew I could absolutely trust him with that job.”
