RIDGEWOOD DISTRICT SCHOOL BUDGET WAS DEFEATED
Over the next week or so, the RBOE and Village Council will meet to deliberate and determine what the new tax rate will be for the 2020-2021 school year budget. Once that rate is determined, both governing bodies must approve that rate at a public meeting.
The defeated budget and the probability of a reduction of our anticipated state aid means there will most likely be restructuring within the district based on available funding.
Scare tactics. Fishbein strikes again.
So in the middle of a pandemic that has shut down the entire economy “there will most likely be restructuring”. GOOD There never should have been a budget proposed with increased spending.
Travell make that announcement yesterday ?
Is her reign of error over ?
Rumor was that the new person was from out of district. If true then it’s another blow to morale….
Well let the destruction at the hands of Dani and the board with no kids in the schools begin. We get the government we deserve. Sell!
Good. Trim the fat. So sick of the coercive tactics of the REA and the lick spittle, favor currying parents (and their ubiquitous lawn signs) pressuring R’wood voters to constantly rubber stamp ever increasing budgets. There’s a lot of economic pain in our town. Time for teachers to do their part and accept some concessions.

Hope the BOE has gotten the message that people are watching. The bond referendum was a bad idea during the best of times. So, new guys – what you got? People are still watching….
What about police & fire next?
Schools will continue to decline
…not due to lack of funds, but due to lack of leadership.
Fishbein and company are clueless when it comes to actual academic accomplishments and leadership.
A voted down budget goes to the Village Council to review and set a new dollar amount. Usually just a token cut.
This give the BOE free range to use the money where they want. Basically they get to work a brand new budget but are now have a hard cap.
Voting down a budget doesn’t buy much relief.
“Destruction at the hands of Dani and the board with no kids in the schools begin.” He’s a taxpayer. That is all that’s required unless you want to change the law.
So what will the new Council and BOE do? We’re all waiting…
Anon… Right so moving the vote was meaningless. Another Dani move.
so the public’s right to vote is meaningless??
I’m not saying it’s meaningless. All I am saying is don’t expect a giant windfall.
I prefer voting on the budget in the spring versus no vote at all.
Anon you’re right. A few token cuts will take place. Unfunded state mandates consume a big chunk of the budget. The new board members will be getting a rude introduction to the realities of educational funding soon so we’ll see what happens.
With the Pandemic and the schools being taught over the internet isn’t there savings over 4 months in transportation costs, building maintenance, after school activities, heating, cooling, etc. Has the current Board said where those savings are going or what account they are being transferred to? The lack of trust and spend attitude of the administration and Board is why the Budget was defeated. They operate like its endless funds. First place to look is the very heavy amount of staff at the board offices, the amount of administrators and supervisors and the staff that weren’t very active during the pandemic.
hidden money Savings report to taxpayers please
