The Ridgewood Board of Education (BOE) is scheduled to examine the village’s Fields Use Policy Monday night, grown controversial as the document has bounced between the BOE and Village Council in a series of approvals and rejections over new usage requirements.
The policy, which was updated by the joint BOE-Village Fields Committee earlier this year and which must be approved by both bodies, was approved by the BOE but rejected by council, which cited concerns with how late and how often high-powered lights at Ridgewood High School’s two athletics fields would be lit.
The council requested that lights at Stevens Field stay on only until 9 p.m. – one hour earlier than the Fields Committee’s request. It also sought clarification of how many nights Stadium Field would power its lights until 10 p.m.
