Ridgewood NJ, Somerville residents…the Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission invites you to adopt a sapling! There are only two requirements for participation: 1) agree to have a sapling of about five feet planted on the right of way area in front of your home, and 2) commit to filling a donut watering bag once a week, or twice a week in extreme heat, for about two years. Interested? Download and print out a registration form.
The Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission is undertaking a new tree planting program,
“Adopt a Sapling”. We are beginning the project in the Somerville School district and
are looking for homeowners who would like to participate in this pilot program.
Participation would include two things:
Agreement to have a sapling of about 5 feet planted on the public right of way area in
front of your home.
1.Commitment to fill a donut watering bag once a week or twice a week in extreme heat
for about two years to keep the sapling watered.
2.Watering is very important for the survival of newly planted trees. The donut wrapped
around the base of the tree is designed to slowly and consistently water the sapling. The
donut will be installed with the tree.
Planting is scheduled for Saturday October 19, 2024, between 9 and 12 PM. Prior to the
planting day, the village arborist will inspect the site to be sure it is appropriate for tree
planting.
If you would like to participate, you need only to sign the agreement below. Any
concerns can be directed to the Parks and Shade Tree office at 201-670-5565 or
RST@ridgewoodnj.net.

Can the tree department remove the tree that is in front of the dam on hill crest. It fell over from the last wind storm.
Thanks.
and the bushes hanging over on w glen btwn upper and hts
Maybe someone from the village will come and mow your lawn too if you ask nicely.
if someone got off their fat ass and enforced the law it would be unnecssary. how about all the bushes blocking sidewalks?
You know this isn’t the Tree Department, right?
I’ve been waiting 7 years now for a replacement tree…
And make sure you plant a tree under a power line.
Then in 10 years, prepare to have your sidewalk re-done since the roots will push up the concrete.
Why can’t they put one on my lawn instead?
Post of the day!
Who’s paying for the trees? Are they coming from a town budget, or somebody donating money to purchase the trees, which is it and I’m sure there’s a a Director, reading the Ridgewood blog. So they will be informed about the tree that’s needs to be removed. Thank you.
Thank you most honorable Ridgewoodian dogwalking taxpayer. The tree in question was removed this afternoon at 12:38PM following your anonymous tip. Artificial turf has also been permanently banned and all the PFOAs have been scrubbed from the public water works. Paul Vagianos has been recalled and Shaquille O’Neal has been installed as interim mayor. Council members Weitz and Winograd have abdicated their seats and will be replaced by Danny Devito and Joe Pesci. BECAUSE THAT’S HOW THINGS WORK.
Why are these trees going to only one neighborhood every year? What’s the logic behind that?
How many trees are being awarded? Is there an inventory? Or are they going to ‘friends and family’ of Nancy Bigos and Shioban Winograd?
How much is it costing,
less than the bloated school budget
Excuse me, annoying, well if we had people doing their job, this would be unnecessary. Whose responsibility is it to inspect all the water drains in town. This is a priority no wonder the village is always flooding. Most of the ditches and drain system are clogged up. How about the mayor council get a list of all the drainage systems that are cleaned in the past year and let’s compare that to years ago we thought so.
