Ridgewood NJ, exciting news reverberated through the Village of Ridgewood this Friday morning as the community, along with our esteemed Legislative team from District 40, gathered to announce a significant development in our ongoing efforts to enhance safety for our students. Senator Kristin Corrado, Assemblyman Chris DePhillips, and Assemblyman Al Barlas joined local officials including Mayor Paul Vagianos, Deputy Mayor Pamela Perron, Village Councilmember Siobhan Winograd, Chief of Police Forest ‘Cenzo’ Lyons and Village Manager Keith Kazkmark to unveil a $157,000-plus grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) in support of our Safe Routes to School initiative.

This grant represents a major investment in the safety and well-being of our students, as it will facilitate the installation of new sidewalks aimed at creating safer pathways for walking and biking to school. With pedestrian safety being a top priority, these new sidewalks will provide students with a secure means of transportation, fostering a healthier and more active lifestyle while reducing traffic congestion and emissions in our community.

The collaborative efforts between the Village of Ridgewood and our dedicated Legislative team underscore our collective commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of our youth. By leveraging resources and working together, we are able to implement tangible solutions that benefit our community as a whole.

As we look ahead, we are excited about the positive impact that this grant will have on our students and their families. With safer routes to school, we can create a more inclusive and vibrant community where everyone can thrive. We extend our gratitude to NJDOT for their support and commend our local officials and Legislative team for their unwavering dedication to the well-being of Ridgewood residents. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter and safer future for our children.

  1. Wow! You can tell it’s a big election year by the number of photo opportunities taking place. Give it a rest Keith and Paulie.

  2. BS. BS. BS. Reduce traffic congestion and emissions? You think parents drive their kids to school because they simply have no other option? Because the only other option is for kids to wade knee deep through malaria infested swamp marshes? Kids aren’t being driven to school but for some imaginary lack of sidewalks, they’re being driven to school because that’s what their parents do, because that’s what their kids want. Can you name one school in Ridgewood that’s inaccessible to foot traffic?

    1. Yes, actually.

Ridgewood children who live in the area of Stillwell Place are REQUIRED to walk to Hawes School since it is less than 2 miles (I think) and walking is required. This requires 5-10 year olds to WALK down Prospect to Grove, very heavily trafficked areas. Shameful actually.

  3. Why is Whino there? She has nothing to do with this although she thinks that she should be involved in everything and has something to say at all times.
