Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Water is set to begin a major infrastructure upgrade next week with the installation of new water mains near the Eastside Reservoir—the future site of the Eastside PFAS Treatment Facility. The project is expected to take approximately six weeks, with work scheduled Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Residents should be aware of road closures and detours in the area during construction.
Why This Project Matters: Addressing PFAS Contamination
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals commonly used in household and industrial products due to their water- and grease-resistant properties. Often called “forever chemicals,” they do not break down easily in the environment and can accumulate in the human body, posing potential health risks.
To combat PFAS contamination, Ridgewood Water is constructing 12 PFAS Treatment Facilities, including the Eastside location. Once operational, these treatment centers will ensure that all regulated PFAS compounds are non-detectable in treated water—far exceeding the EPA’s strict standard of 4 parts per trillion.
Ahead of Schedule: Safer Water Sooner
Ridgewood Water’s comprehensive PFAS treatment initiative is projected to be completed by the end of 2026—three years ahead of the EPA’s 2029 deadline. This proactive approach guarantees cleaner, safer drinking water for the community well before federal regulations take full effect.
