Ridgewood Nj, looks like the new Ridgewood parking regulations claimed their first victim .Not only did the Village raise parking rates 33% this year and 50% from 2015, but they reduced the number of parking spots in the Hudson lot. The rates were increased without notice and no mention of reduced spots!
Commuters are up in arms over the new parking prices. If you have an annual parking pass, visit the next village council meeting to “have a chat” with the powers that be.
It’s good to remember people have to commute because there are so few quality jobs in New Jersey anymore that could afford you a Ridgewood lifestyle.
Or, the current council was asleep at the wheel?
They have had enough time in office to stop this.
From what I heard, you can buy a permit for $750/year (no increase from last year) which will allow you to park in Chestnut, Walnut and the cottage street lots. By having specific spots for shoppers and diners in each of the lots, the village is trying to give some relief to the stores and restaurants closer to the train, that have been suffering because their customers have nowhere to park. It’s not fair to the businesses, if the lot closest to them is filled will cars parked for 8-10 hours. This is a way to redistribute the spaces, while many other things are in the works, including working on a garage that actually fits on the Hudson St lot. There are not any less spaces for commuters, they are just distributed throughout the lots more equally than they had been.
At 1:06 – how exactly does removing 100 spots from being eligible to commuters qualify as redistribution to those same commuters? 100 less spots is 100 less spots. Was a new garage or lot opened of which no one is aware? If the diners and shoppers want the spots, they can wake up at 5:30 like me and beat me to the spot.
The new council created these “solutions.” None of this was passed by resolution! It is all illegal. Park where you want and dont pay the fine. They havnt even approved much less waited the 20 days or whatever. Anyone who paid $1000 should sue. None of this has been done legally.
How long are people going to scapegoat the old council gone for months. These decisions rest squarely on the shoulders of the current council who promised innovative parking solutions – well, you got em.
