Wyckoff NJ, a Ringwood woman has filed a lawsuit against a Wyckoff ShopRite, alleging that a slip-and-fall accident in the store’s produce aisle has left her permanently disabled.
Brussels Sprouts Slip Leads to Lawsuit
According to a lawsuit filed on January 29, 2025, in Bergen County Superior Court, Linda Swedin claims that on December 28, 2023, she slipped on brussels sprouts that had fallen onto the floor of the ShopRite of Wyckoff.
The lawsuit alleges that the supermarket was negligent in maintaining a safe shopping environment and failed to prevent hazards that could cause injuries to customers.
Serious Injuries and Financial Strain
Swedin claims that the accident caused her severe pain, mental anguish, and permanent disability, leaving her incapacitated and unable to perform daily activities as before. The suit also states that she has had to spend substantial sums of money on medical treatment as a result of the incident.
Legal Action Against ShopRite Owner
The lawsuit names Inserra Supermarkets, the owner of ShopRite of Wyckoff, as the defendant. Swedin is seeking damages, interest, and legal fees for her injuries and financial losses. She is represented by attorney J. Sean Connelly of Ridgewood.
Premises Liability and Supermarket Safety
This case highlights the importance of premises liability laws, which require businesses to ensure their property is safe for customers. Supermarkets, in particular, must regularly inspect floors, clean up spills, and address potential hazards to prevent accidents like this.
As the case unfolds, it raises questions about store maintenance responsibilities and how businesses can better protect shoppers from preventable injuries.

Or you could just watch where you’re walking, you old crone.
Let’s go to the videotape. My guess, a scam.
Oh good god.
I was on a case maybe 10+ years ago with a shelf stocker claiming he hurt his back on the job. Also affected his ability to have relations with his wife.
We didn’t buy it…
No wonder everybody hates brussels sprouts. They are a societal menace.
Lets hope a reasonable jury comes to a reasonable conclusion.
The US civil court system that allows someone to sue for any reason and the only way to stop it is for a ‘loser pays’ system that would prevent frivolous claims. I do not know if this case has merit, but just making an observation
I’ve been in that store and its super clean .
Didn’t that stupid robot see this potential catastrophe? What else does it do but get in the way?
