River Edge Mom Charged With Beating Child to Death

River Edge NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of SUN MIN GRACE YOO CHAN (DOB: 1/10/1986; married; educational counselor) of  River Edge, NJ on charges of murder, aggravated assault, and child endangerment.  The arrest is the result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the River Edge Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Walker.

On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at approximately 7:30 A.M., the River Edge Police Department received a 911 call reporting an infant not breathing.  Upon their arrival at the residence, officers found a 3-month-old unresponsive male infant.  The child was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased on April 1, 2022.  An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the River Edge Police Department revealed that SUN MIN GRACE YOO CHAN assaulted the infant on multiple occasions in the past and, on March 29, 2022, ultimately caused his death.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, SUN MIN GRACE YOO CHAN was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1); second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1); and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child,  N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2). CHAN was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the River Edge Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
