Franklin Lakes NJ, on Monday morning, Route 208 northbound at Ewing Avenue in Franklin Lakes was shut down due to a crash investigation, as reported by the Franklin Lakes Police Department.
Accident Details
The cause and severity of the accident are still unknown, but an ambulance was dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:03 a.m. The incident occurred just after 10:15 a.m. when NJDOT vehicles, conducting street sweeping operations in a work zone on the left shoulder near Summit Avenue, collided with a privately-owned dump truck.
Injuries and Medical Response
The NJDOT drivers involved in the crash were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. The operator of the dump truck received medical attention at the scene and declined further assistance, according to Police Capt. Robert Grassi.
Investigation and Road Closure
The crash is under investigation, leading to the closure of Route 208 North at Ewing Avenue for an undetermined period. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Franklin Lakes Police Department, Franklin Lakes Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Wyckoff Ambulance Corps, The Valley Hospital Paramedics, Wyckoff Police Department, NJ Department of Transportation, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.
Traffic Rerouting
To manage the disruption, police are directing motorists to use the entrance ramp at Ewing Avenue as an exit ramp to bypass the accident. The ambulance on-site also used this ramp to exit the highway and reach the injured parties. The accident site is approximately 100 feet south of 684 Route 208 north.
