Englewood Cliff NJ, Samsung Electronics is set to move its North America headquarters from Ridgefield Park to Englewood Cliffs in 2025, just months after consumer goods giant Unilever departs from the same area. This relocation marks a significant shift in the corporate landscape of Bergen County.
Earlier this week, Unilever—known for household brands like Axe, Vaseline, and formerly Ben & Jerry’s ice cream—will be leaving its longtime headquarters at 700 Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs. The company is set to occupy three stories, totaling 111,000 square feet, at SJP’s Waterfront Corporate Center 1 in Hoboken by March 2025.
Samsung’s move to Englewood Cliffs is slated for the summer of 2025. While the exact address of the new headquarters has not been disclosed, the company has expressed excitement about continuing its operations in Bergen County. “The move marks an exciting new chapter, and we are proud to continue to operate in Bergen County,” a Samsung spokesperson stated.
Samsung currently houses 1,000 employees at its Ridgefield Park headquarters, located at 65 Challenger Road. The decision to relocate comes as part of a broader trend where companies are transitioning from suburban office campuses to urban corporate centers, driven in part by the persistence of work-from-home practices post-pandemic.
Unilever’s departure from its revitalized Englewood Cliffs campus, which opened in 2018, highlights this shift. Designed to represent the workplace of the future, the campus featured state-of-the-art amenities including lounges, a workout room, co-working spaces, and even a tea bar. However, the trend towards urban corporate centers in places like Manhattan, Jersey City, and Hoboken is reshaping where businesses choose to establish their headquarters.
The shift from suburban campuses to urban centers reflects changes in corporate priorities and workforce expectations, signaling a new era in corporate real estate strategy. As Samsung prepares for its move, Bergen County continues to adapt to the evolving demands of the modern workplace.
