Renewable energy program gains steam in Ridgewood

So ground-breaking is the renewable energy plant at Ridgewood’s water treatment facility that the success of the environmental endeavor is creating a global buzz.
Municipal officials and other dignitaries recently commemorated the project’s completion and ongoing energy production with a celebration that included a tour of the inner workings at the state-of-the-art operation center.
In the limelight are the village’s biogas system and its generator, which optimizes the water treatment process and converts gas produced by waste into useable electricity. That electricity is then utilized to power the entire complex, which is the village’s greatest energy consumer. The particular practice was described by officials as an innovative process, one that is only beginning to gain steam in the country, let alone in the world.
The new biogas-fueled power generator is one of the crown jewels of Ridgewood Green, a public-private partnership that formed in December 2011 and merged the ideas of village officials with the capital and resources of Natural Systems Utilities (NSU), Middlesex Water Company (MWC) and American Refining and Biochemical. Ridgewood Green also installed solar energy panels at the facility, as well as at Village Hall, Ridgewood Fire Department headquarters and the EMS building.

Ridgewood NJ, It’s been a couple of weeks since the campaign has ended and for Steve Lonegan the bills keep coming in, but all the help promised from conservatives and Republicans across the country hasn’t.
Lonegan not only ran four points ahead of Mitt Romney’s showing in this state (Romney would have won if he had run four points better!), but he carried nine counties and all six congressional districts with Republicans.
Clearly is was a victory for our ideas, and a message that Republicans can take back our country if we stand up for what we believe.
While the Republicans in Washington DC sat on their hand and did nothing Steve Lonegan fought the good fight . The Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee did nothing to make this race competitive.
Their absence and sellout cowardice sent a message to others to stay away. Groups like the Senate Conservatives Fund would not even acknowledge Steve’s candidacy, even while spending hundreds of thousands of dollars attacking Republican Senators who aren’t even running until 2016 or 2018.
Steve Lonegan put his own money where his mouth is spending $100,000 of his own money . Unlike Corey Booker Lorraine and Steve are not wealthy people, but believe in the free market and individual liberty and see how this is threatened by the policies of Barack Obama and Cory Booker.
According to Steve the National Republican Senatorial Committee, whose job it is is to elect Republicans, actually sent out an email that asked people to send money to help MY campaign.But they kept every penny. And now I’m left holding the bag. (See below)
Losing this election was painful for Lorraine and myself. I want to be able to keep fighting for what you and I believe in, but I just can’t do it until I can pay these bills.

Booker has been caught lying about a fictional friend named T-Bone and inflating stories about his past. Then, it was revealed that he was tweeting with strippers. The last thing we need in the Senate is another Anthony Weiner.

Obama admin. knew millions could not keep their health insurance

President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.
Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC NEWS that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”
Gov. Chris Christie says he understands victims’ frustrations a year after Superstorm Sandy but maintains that his administration isn’t to blame for delays in aid reaching victims.
In an interview with The Associated Press as the anniversary of the Oct. 29 megastorm approached, the New Jersey Republican blamed Congress, which took three months to approve a $50.7 billion relief package for the region, and a thicket of red tape put in place to prevent the type of fraud that occurred after Hurricane Katrina.
“We’ve done everything we possibly can, and I think in the immediate aftermath did a very good job,” Christie told the AP. “Since then, we’ve kind of been hostage to two situations, the delay in the aid itself and then what I call the `Katrina factor,’ which is the much more detailed and difficult rules surrounding the distribution of the aid.” (Politico)

WASHINGTON — Whether miffed over spying revelations or feeling sold out by U.S. moves in the Middle East, some of the United States’ closest allies are so upset that the Obama administration has gone into damage-control mode to ensure the rifts don’t widen and threaten critical partnerships.
The quarrels differ in their causes and degrees of seriousness. As a whole, however, they pose a new foreign policy headache for an administration whose overseas track record is seen in many quarters at home and abroad as reactive and lacking direction.
In Europe and the Middle East, rifts that once would’ve been quietly smoothed over have exploded into headlines and public remonstrations.

With a little luck we should have decent weather for Halloween this year. As our children take to the streets on Halloween to trick-or-treat, I would like to remind everyone of a few safety tips to ensure that the treats are plentiful and tricks fun and safe.
To help ensure that this Halloween is fun and safe the Ridgewood Police Department will be deploying extra officers on both October 30th and Halloween.
Additionally we secured glow sticks and (AAA) Halloween bags which will be available to the public. (glow sticks and bags will be available at our police desk)
Here are some tips for helping keep young ones safe on Halloween:
Motorists -The National Highway Safety Administration and The CDC list Halloween as one of the top days for pedestrian involved accidents especially children. Because excited trick-or-treaters often forget about safety, motorists and parents must be even more alert. While the festivities may start earlier in the day, the most popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
•Slow down in residential neighborhoods and obey all traffic signs and signals.
•Drive at least 5 mph below the posted speed limit to give yourself extra time to react to children who may dart into the street.
•Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs. In dark costumes, they’ll be harder to see at night.
•Look for children crossing the street. They may not be paying attention to traffic and cross the street mid-block or between parked cars.
•Carefully enter and exit driveways and alleys.
•Turn on your headlights to make yourself more visible – even in the daylight.
• Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings
•Broaden your scanning by looking for children left and right into yards and front porches.
Parents
•Ensure an adult or older, responsible youth is available to supervise children under age 12.
•Plan and discuss the route your trick-or-treaters will follow.
•Instruct children to travel only in familiar areas and along established routes.
•Teach children to stop only at well-lit houses and to never to enter a stranger’s home or garage.
•Establish a time for children to return home.
•Tell children not to eat any treats until they get home.
•Review trick-or-treating safety precautions, including pedestrian and traffic safety rules.
•Make sure Halloween costumes are flame-retardant and visible with retro-reflective material.
Trick-or-Treaters
•Be bright at night – Carry a glow stick and wear retro-reflective tape on costumes and treat buckets to improve visibility to motorists and others.
•Wear disguises that don’t obstruct vision, and avoid facemasks. Instead, use nontoxic face paint.
•When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
•Ensure any props are flexible and blunt-tipped to avoid injury from tripping or horseplay.
•Walking Safety
Carry a flashlight containing fresh batteries, and place it face down in the treat bucket to free up one hand. Never shine it into the eyes of oncoming drivers.
•Stay on sidewalks and avoid walking in streets if possible.
•If there are no sidewalks, walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic.
•Look ALL ways and listen for traffic before crossing the street and keep looking as you cross.
•Cross streets only at the corner, using traffic signals and crosswalks. and never cross between parked vehicles or mid-block.
•Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
•Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them. (Remember STOP LOOK & WAVE)
•Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to
the left as possible.
Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings.
•Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.
•Tell your parents where you are going.

John Kerry tells Congress that he will not allow Benghazi survivors to testify

The stonewalling of the Obama Administration on the Benghazi survivors is incredibly frustrating, but made worse by the complete lack of interest by the mainstream media. Kerry has faced the question of the Benghazi survivors on numerous occasions and has effectively dodged the issue at every turn.
In March, Secretary of State John Kerry was asked by Fox News correspondent James Rosen why nobody has “heard from” the Benghazi survivors. Kerry stumbled through the answer, saying .

With the supposedly state-of-the-art $600 million HealthCare.gov portal malfunctioning, President Barack Obama is urging Americans to go ahead and try to get health coverage by mailing in a paper application, calling the helpline or seeking help from one of the trained “assisters.”
But the truth is those applications — on paper or by phone — have to get entered into the same lousy website that is causing the problems in the first place. And the people processing the paper and calls don’t have any cyber secret passage to duck around that. They too have to deal with all the frustrations of HealthCare.gov — full-time.

Last April, Americans turned in 371 tons (over 742,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at over 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. In its six previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2.8 million pounds—more than 1,400 tons—of pills.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
DEA is in the process of approving new regulations that implement the Safe and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010, which amends the Controlled Substances Act to allow an “ultimate user” (that is, a patient or pet or their family member or owner) of controlled substance medications to dispose of them by delivering them to entities authorized by the Attorney General to accept them. The Act also allows the Attorney General to authorize long term care facilities to dispose of their residents’ controlled substances in certain instances.

New Jersey environmental groups slam state, federal response to Superstorm Sandy

As the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy draws near, New Jersey’s environmental groups are giving poor grades to Governor Christie, lawmakers and federal officials for problems and flaws in the response to the 2012 storm.
Christie, a Republican seeking a second term, drew a grade of B for leadership based on his initial handling of the Oct. 29, 2012 storm, but an overall grade of D due to failings in planning and responsiveness since.
His handling of the damaged NJ Transit rail stock that was left in flood-prone areas was cited as an example. The Record reported earlier this year that the rail stock was left in areas identified in the agency’s own hurricane plan, and Christie has blamed only a low-level manager for that mistake.
“The governor has not been accountable,” said Jeff Tittel, director of New Jersey’s Sierra Club.
Christie administration agencies overseeing the recovery also scored poorly in the grades released during a State House news conference Thursday afternoon. Those shortcomings include a lack of transparency and failure to tailor rebuilding efforts in a way that mitigates damage from future storms.
The recent fire at the Seaside boardwalk was cited as an example. The rush to rebuild without proper permits and inspections may be a contributing factor.
“It shows the danger of rebuilding in haste,” said David Pringle of the New Jersey Environmental Federation.

The answer to whether the BOE will weigh in or not is in paragraph 4. When the BOE accepted the $500,000 from Valley any chance that they would speak out against the Expansion went right out the window. There is no chance that the BOE will come out publicly against the expansion. Zero. It won’t happen.
With 80+% of their budget tied up in salaries and benefits and absolutely no appetite for cost cutting and headcount reduction, (See latest administration hirings) $500,000 is a god send to the BOE. They will not jeapordize that. Expect nothing but silence from the BOE.
