Bill to Allow Restaurants to Advertise BYOB Status Clears Committee

Trenton NJ, Legislation sponsored by Senator James Beach and Senate Law and Public Safety Chair Linda Greenstein, which would allow restaurants to advertise that they are BYOB, cleared the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee yesterday.

“The whole purpose of BYOB is that diners bring in their own beer or wine, but without advertising people don’t know someplace is a BYOB until they get there,” said Senator Beach (D-Burlington/Camden). “This legislation will allow more people to take advantage of that offering.”

Reader Comments on the Effect of “High Density Housing “

“Let us spell out what did this mean for the Village , it means an enormous increase in the population of the CBD and the Village of Ridgewood . Which means; more investment in school construction , more construction of parking facilities , more construction of water infrastructure , more investment in roads and traffic signals , sewage and more investment in Police , Fire and Emergency services .”

* More people = more congestion and strain on services.
* More school construction = more bonding just to keep up with old buildings
* More (unnecessary) parking = more bond debt to bail out CBD owners at the expense of resident taxpayers
* More water infrastructure = in a town where we are on restrictions year-round, not to mention that Ridgewood never met a public utility it didn’t want to own (so we get sued)
* More roads & signals = they are already behind on road maintenance and the parking department has a love for quarters.
* More uniformed services = as a nod to the unions who we love to pay out 6-figure salaries to.

Yeah, the three amigos really did it to us, so the mayor could deliver $$ to his Dem cohorts as he padded his political resume for consideration by his politico masters.

Ridgewood Orchestra’s Love Themed Concert on March 8 Features Romantic Favorites from the Beatles, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner

Ridgewood NJ , From Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet to an uplifting medley of Beatles songs, the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra (RSO) will present an evening of love songs on Friday March 8 at 8:00 p.m., at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Featuring romantic favorites spanning two centuries, the theme of the concert is “All You Need is Love.” The concert features guest soloist Lindsay Deutsch, an American violinist who recently toured as solo violinist with Yanni, and has thrilled audiences world-wide with her brilliant display of technique and musicianship. The program will present the NJ premiere of Beatles Fantasy, an arrangement of Beatles songs taking the listener on a journey spanning the Beatles’ music throughout the group’s career. Popular Beatles’ tunes will be unmistakable yet original when the orchestra and violin soloist Lindsay Deutsch perform the concerto in three movements led by Artistic Director and Conductor Stephen Culbertson.

New Spending :Blame it on Ridgewood Voters

Ridgewood NJ, many readers challenge the Ridgewood blog’s constant assertion that the Paul Aronsohn administration (ie… the three amigos) represented the low point in Village of Ridgewood history and the turning point from the Village being a very special place to a run of the mill New Jersey town.

Voters in New Jersey never like to admit their folly but the reality is this :

The election of Mayor Paul Aronsohn ushered in 4 high density housing developments in the Central Business District .

Let us spell out what did this mean for the Village , it means an enormous increase in the population of the CBD and the Village of Ridgewood . Which means; more investment in school construction , more construction of parking facilities , more construction of water infrastructure , more investment in roads and traffic signals , sewage and more investment in Police , Fire and Emergency services .

All this now very necessary spending will raise the costs (ie…taxes)and lower the quality of life in the Village .

NJ Outdoor Alliance: Science Prevails In Court Decision Against Anti-Hunting Extremists

Trenton NJ, According to an Associated Press report, a plan by anti-hunting extremist groups to sue to stop the implementation of 2015 rules that added a second annual hunt, increased the number of hunting permits and allowed bow hunting in the state’s controversial annual Black Bear hunt has been rejected by state appeals court.

The ruling rejected claims by the groups that the state inflated the number of complaints about bears and didn’t give enough consideration to non-lethal means of controlling the population such as fertility control and relocation.

Ridgewood BOE Attempts to Clear the Air on PARCC Tests

Trenton NJ, In December, the NJ Appellate Court struck down the PARCC graduation requirement because the high school PARCC multi-year, multi-test requirement did not align with the state law’s graduation requirement of one 11^th grade test. The state has until today, February 11^th, to respond to the court and the Education Law Center’s request to maintain the current pathways to graduation for the 2019 through 2022 graduates.

TRENTON NJ,Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Union) released the following statement on Gov. Phil Murphy latest job approval rankings according to a Monmouth University poll:

“Polling shows the Murphy administration’s reckless spending and taxing is taking New Jersey in the wrong direction. The public now realizes that the Murphy administration is not only raising taxes, even on the rain, but is trying to take over your communities. Trenton is permitting thousands of high density housing units in our towns, supports taking over your local schools and wants more regulation on job creators.

The Murphy administration is getting its first dose of reality from the public in the Monmouth poll. Until Trenton begins to address the needs of working people, Murphy’s poll numbers will nose dive.”

Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT Announce Financial Settlement

Ridgewood NJ, At a press conference in New York Penn Station, Governor Murphy, Amtrak Board Chairman Tony Coscia, and NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Kevin Corbett today announced the finalizing of a financial settlement that that paves the way to ongoing and future improvements to the infrastructure, customer experience, and safety of our customers. The press conference also shared updates on several joint projects, including Penn Station, critical infrastructure projects, and safety, showcasing a commitment to collaboration and improving the customer experience to the traveling public.

“Investing in our infrastructure, improving customer experience, and enhancing the safety of the traveling public are among the highest priorities of our Administration,” said Governor Murphy. “The announcement today establishes a partnership that will achieve these goals now, and lays the financial foundation for continued improvements into the future. After eight years of disinvestment in, and mismanagement of, NJTRANSIT, collaborative partnerships like the one we are announcing today will go a long way to restoring the agency to its former preeminence.”

Congressman Gottheimer Celebrates Year of the Pig !

PARAMUS NJ, Saturday, February 9, 2019, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) celebrated the Lunar New Year with Asian-American community groups from across North Jersey at Garden State Plaza in Paramus. The celebration consisted of traditional dances and performances by community groups and activities for kids and families.

“We have such a diverse community here in North Jersey and it’s part of what makes North Jersey such a special place to live,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Thank you to all the organizers and performers for putting together such a great event to celebrate the Lunar New Year here with our family, friends, and neighbors.”

New Jersey Still Chasing Windmills

TRENTON NJ, The Board of Public Utilities today released a report detailing the progress made toward the state’s offshore wind goals in the year since Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 8 directing the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) to fully implement the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act (OWEDA).

“We have gone from having no program on the day the Governor was inaugurated 55 weeks ago to developing a cutting edge offshore wind program with a goal of 3,500 MW of offshore wind energy by 2030,” NJBPU President Joseph L. Fiordaliso. “Offshore wind is a key aspect of the Governor’s clean energy initiatives as we put in place policies aimed at combatting the effects of climate change.”

Derek Michalski of GreenUSR : Here is my official statement to the press after yesterday’s visit from reporters from NJ media and Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel. Thank you Jeff for driving all the way from South Jersey to see how stormwater carnage looks in real life. Now it’s time for Governor Murphy to take a drive to Saddle River Valley and see for himself how irrational is the idea of imposing “Rain Tax” a/k/a “Storm Water Pollution Tax” on ALL of commercial property owners instead going after wrongdoers like Toll Brothers that let construction mud allegedly containing lead and arsenic directly into public storm drains and my Pleasant Brook (main feature of GreenUSR). In addition Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, Holly Schepisi and County Executive Jim Tedesco have been shown the evidence below dozens of times so I don’t think there is a person left in New Jersey who haven’t see how Toll Brothers dewaters its construction sites.

February is American Heart Month

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Health Department and the American Heart Association remind you that February is American Heart month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

The good news is that heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for people to make healthier choices.

The Ridgewood Health Department encourages families to make small changes, like using spices to season their food instead of salt. Teachers and educators need to make physical activity a part of the school day. This can help students start good habits early.
