Ridgewood NJ, this has come up at several Ridgewood Board of Education meetings recently and has been a periodic point of contention over the last 20 years as to the size of the Ridgewood school board.
The district has five , most other New Jersey School districts have 7-9 . The theory being Ridgewood is a very large district , a larger board would be better to share the responsibility .
Ridgewood Board of Education candidates were asked their perspective on expanding the size of the Board given Ridgewood’s is comparatively small, especially when considering the size of our district. No surprise they all said yes , but if the past 20 years is any indication ,trustees do not want to dilute their power.
Its often pushed over the years by groups like the NJEA looking for a power grab .
Trustee Dani got criticism for not answering the question at the League of Women voters forum; some members of the community felt he ignored a legitimate question and reverted to talking points .
We had checked with the New School Board Association and they told us, “NJSBA is not aware of any research that has been done regarding the optimal number of school board members for different size districts. In New Jersey, we have boards with five, seven or nine members, but there are also larger regional boards that have more members. North Hunterdon Voorhees, for example, has 12 members. Boards have the ability to change the size of the board by putting a question on the ballot for the approval of the electorate. ”

-Term limits
-Must have kids currently in district/school
-Must reside in Ridgewood
-Expand to 9
Must have kids in the school district? That’s taxation without representation. 67% of may tax dollars go towards the school budget. You want unchecked spending by parents? Empty nester will be running for the hills and sticking the high cost of education on school-aged parents. SMH.
Laws would not permit restriction to those with children enrolled.
I don’t see a need to have kids in the district/schools. All residents paying taxes should have a say.
Hey dipstick.. i don’t have kids in the school but i PAY for yours.
Maybe i’ll get my ‘moneys’ worth of my tax dollars by inviting a few bedrooms full of underprivileged kids from paterson.
Get ready for split sessions if those of us who subsidize you newbies get pissed off and double the school enrollments
Ha. Triggered and calling others names. Must be a liberal. Always fall back on name calling when u cant support an argument w facts
Do you realize that the blog’s “darling” candidate would not be eligible if your rules are followed?
You mean like Brogan ?
And Kwak
No, James, I mean Dani. He doesn’t have kids in Ridgewood schools
neither does Brogan or Kwak
Yes! So all 3 of them should be out.
as far as I know there is no rule that you have to have kids in the school system
No, there is no such rule! I was just responding the original poster who proposed to have such rule. But also, we all know which candidates “the blog” prefers so you would never support a rule like that anyway
Correct! Bring in New BOE Members now!
We know the Ridgewood bigots hate dani because he is smarter than you are and works harder
Great so the meetings can take even longer so they all can hear themselves talk?
That’s another dirty bunch. They play with the school budgets in their favor. School buses, bus, drivers, custodians, grounds personnel, should’ve never been laid off years ago. All those services should’ve stayed in the house.
I am not in favor of anyone being selected by the teacher’s union. So there are a few I will not be voting for. As for parental rights and book banning, that is a hard no as well. I could already tell who was coming across aggressive or with their own agenda, so they are immediately off my list as well.
Mainly the candidate w 23 yrs in nyc public schools. Can’t u imagine the woke agenda Julie M brings to the table
“Hey dipstick….” Prejudiced much?
I can’t have an honest debate w two different opinions. If u disagree w me I will revert to calling u a dipstick
Interesting to think a board member can push an agenda for my kids that will not have any impact on their kids who attend private school. Sounds like Gavin Newsroom
Like Brogan ?
This is one more trick (change the rules just before she comes up for re-election) Brogan will use to stay on the Board. There should be term limits
Regardless of who occupies the seats, I don’t see the need to expand the absolute number.
“Should the Ridgewood Board of Education Be Expanded ?”
I object to the form of the question.
These arrogant self-entitled a-holes who think that only parents of current students can serve. Ok. You want it that way? Then we who are childless or old will stop paying 67% of our tax dollars and the school budget will shrink to nada.
