Boca Chica, TX — SpaceX was forced to call off the 10th test flight of its Starship rocket last night, just minutes before the launch window was set to open. Company officials cited an issue with ground systems—typically referring to launch pad infrastructure rather than the rocket itself—as the reason for the scrub.

While the next launch window has not yet been announced, SpaceX says a new attempt is expected within the week.

This mission would have marked the fourth Starship flight of 2025, part of SpaceX’s accelerated effort to develop its massive next-generation spacecraft. Starship is designed to carry up to 100 people on long-duration missions, central to CEO Elon Musk’s vision of colonizing Mars.

So far, test results have been mixed. All three previous flights in 2025 ended in failure, and another prototype exploded during fueling in June. Despite setbacks, SpaceX continues to push forward, with Starship seen as a cornerstone for both NASA’s Artemis program to return astronauts to the Moon and Musk’s long-term interplanetary ambitions.

The scrubbed launch comes just days after SpaceX’s success with the U.S. Space Force’s X-37B mission, the eighth test flight of the secretive spaceplane. The uncrewed craft has already logged 1.3 billion miles in orbit and can remain in space for years at a time.

For now, the space community waits to see if Starship can finally achieve a breakthrough flight in the coming days.
