Spotlight on First Responders: Hasbrouck Heights and Wood-Ridge Fire Departments

Hasbrouck Heights NJ, at approximately 9:30 pm on March 17th, the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department swiftly responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a rollover at the intersection of Route 17 S. and Williams Avenue. Upon arrival, Chief 60, Chief 61, and Chief 62 confirmed the rollover with entrapment. A 10–30 distress signal was transmitted, prompting mutual aid from the Wood-Ridge Fire Department. Crews from Squad 1, Engine 2, and the Rescue skillfully extricated the victim, who was then treated by EMS. Additionally, several handlines were deployed to address a significant fuel spill of gasoline and diesel. The Wood-Ridge Fire Department provided assistance on the scene and covered the Borough during the extended operation.

On March 23rd, the day began with an early morning response to a fire alarm at Home2 Suites, followed by another call around 6 PM to Paterson Ave for a smoke condition inside a residence. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire on the exterior of the structure. Chiefs 61 and 62 swiftly called for assistance, and the Wood-Ridge Fire Department responded to the scene while mutual aid covered the Borough. The fire was promptly extinguished before further spread.

Later, the department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a smoking vehicle, which escalated into a vehicle fire shortly after. Crews arrived at the intersection of Route 17 & Franklin to find a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames. Once again, the Wood-Ridge Fire Department provided assistance.

Throughout March 23rd, members dedicated several hours to rescuing over 20 trapped motorists from flooded areas in Heights and Teterboro. Residents are strongly advised to avoid flooded roads and refrain from attempting to drive through them.
