Ridgewood NJ, the supermarket chain Stop & Shop has announced plans to close 10 stores in New Jersey and a total of 32 across the Northeast by the end of 2024. The closures are part of a broader corporate strategy aimed at “positioning the company for growth.” The Ridgewood Stop & Shop is unaffected.
Stores Closing in New Jersey:
- Inman Ave., Edison
- Route 1 South, Edison
- Route 9, Howell
- Route 22, Phillipsburg
- Paterson Avenue, Carlstadt
- Route 27, Franklin
- Skyline Drive, Ringwood
- Richmond Avenue, Pt. Pleasant
- W. County Line, Jackson
According to a company statement, Stop & Shop is evaluating its store network to focus on markets that align with its long-term goals. While these closures may impact local communities, Tony Caputo from News 12 New Jersey reports that, as of now, the Inman Avenue location in Edison remains open, though it is expected to close by year’s end.
What About Employees?
The company has confirmed that it will offer job opportunities at other locations to employees affected by the closures. This means workers will have the chance to continue their employment at different Stop & Shop stores, easing the impact of the shutdowns.
The store closures will take place before the end of 2024, with more updates expected as the dates draw near.
If you’re a shopper at any of the affected locations, now is the time to plan ahead as the chain restructures for the future.
It’s a shame they’re not closing the one here because everyone who shops there is weird and kinda trashy.
Not including your Wife of course. Who has single-handedly kept the Ridgewood location in business with her daily purchases of Smirnoff.
Oh, no, definitely including her. Say what you will about Smirnoff, but helps get her through her work week of providing for you and your golf buddies in the parking lot after hours. As long as she comes back with a profit I’m happy.
