Twp. of Washington NJ, Washington Elementary School had an early dismissal on Tuesday November 14, 2023.

Upon arrival this morning, two teachers noticed an odor in a single classroom that seemed to be emanating from the heating unit. School administration decided to relocate classes taking place in that room. Superintendent Dr. Jill Mortimer was notified and she consulted with the Bergen County Department of Education, the Township of Washington Administrator and the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, which is currently on site at the school.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school reached out to the Bergen County Hazmat Unit, who is doing a full investigation  and the results will be shared with staff and parents when it is available. The representative from Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission did not believe there is imminent danger to staff or students. The steps the school are taking at this time are precautionary in nature. No other students or staff members have expressed feeing unwell.

Additional district administrators and the Township of Washington Police Department were present to assist with an early dismissal at 12:50pm .
