An analysis of available NCAA reports for the 2021-2022 fiscal year shows that New Jersey taxpayers and students are paying more than their fair share of  the athletic expenses for Rutgers than the public does at any other Big Ten state university.

Rutgers spent more than $138 million on athletics , that’s more than six other conference schools while losing nearly  a whopping $53 million in the last fiscal year. That shortfall is the largest among Big Ten public schools.

Meanwhile, Rutgers  revenues of $85 million, not including student fees and other university support, was dead last, a place New Jersyians all too often find themselves  among the 13 schools whose financials were reviewed by NorthJersey.com. Nearly all the other schools made significantly more than $100 million.
