Suspect Arrested in Attempted Child Abduction at Wawa in South Jersey

Trenton NJ, according to NJ State Police the man who allegedly tried to abduct a 7-year-old boy from a New Jersey Wawa last week is now in custody.


Last Sunday, New Jersey State Police said an unidentified man allegedly approached the boy in the bathroom at a Wawa on Route 47 in Maurice River and offered him candy to leave with him.

On May 28, at approximately 12:20 p.m., an unidentified man allegedly attempted to abduct a 7-year-old boy from the Dorchester Wawa located in Maurice River. According to the victim, the suspect entered the Wawa restroom and offered the boy candy to leave with him. The boy declined his invitation, at which point the man grabbed the boy’s arm and attempted to physically remove him from the store. The boy immediately resisted, broke free from the man’s grasp, and ran to his mother who was using the female restroom. The suspect departed prior to being located by the child’s family.

Thomas Cannon was charged Thursday with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a third-degree offense.
