Trenton NJ, following a disappointing performance in the Democratic Primary convention season, New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy announced today via the social media platform X that she is withdrawing her candidacy for the United States Senate.
In a video message, she stated, “After many busy, invigorating, and yes, challenging months, I am suspending my Senate campaign today. I’ve been genuine and factual throughout, but it is clear to me that continuing in this race will involve waging a very divisive and negative campaign which I am not willing to do. … I know the best thing we can do for New Jersey is to unite and focus on the real issues at hand.”
Despite securing 62% of organizational support, Murphy faced difficulties in secret ballot convention voting, prompting concerns across the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, her primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3), gained significant momentum.
With Murphy’s exit, Kim now emerges as the frontrunner for the nomination.
Murphy’s Senate bid encountered challenges from the outset. Critics viewed her candidacy as a maneuver orchestrated by her husband, Governor Phil Murphy, which alienated primary voters. Moreover, her campaign faced a significant setback when the governor’s Attorney General publicly refused to contest Kim’s lawsuit challenging the party organization line system favoring Murphy.
A federal judge is set to decide on the case by the week’s end, with expectations leaning towards a ruling in favor of Kim and against the First Lady, dealing another blow to her campaign.
By withdrawing from the race, Tammy Murphy appears to preemptively address the potential fallout from an unfavorable ruling. Sources suggest growing concern among Democrats at the federal level over the potential ramifications on the party’s resources in a crucial presidential election year, particularly with New Jersey already posing challenges due to Senator Bob Menendez’s indictment and contemplation of an independent run in the general election.

Good grief…whatever gave her the idea that should could be a Senator?
entitlement.
Her husband is a lame duck on the way to becoming a nobody (Corzine, Corzine??????) and he needed her to preserve some tidbit of power.
Accurate headline= “Despite Dictator Murphy ‘strong arming’ all of the entrentched Democratic party bosses with power of his office and wallet, the people spoke” and she FAILED miserably as a candidate.
So she’s “withdrawn. Obviously the message was clear.
Now Platkin has crossed the Gov.
Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the planned Murphy “dynasty.”
And a further confirmation that no Goldman Sachs alumnus should ever hold elective office.
It’s fun to be a lame duck.

Toothpaste is definitely not something the Murphys purchase.
I guess Goldman Sachs didn’t have a dental plan ?
Murphy over-reach could break Dem machine, thanks Tammy. There’s a good chance our next gov will be Republican, thanks again Tammy! Knew she was a closet Republican and her Republican roots never left her. come on, she looked just like Katie Britt in her video
Tammy, come back to us. Progressives and Dems hate your guts. You’ve done more for Republicans in NJ than Christie. Or Christine Todd Whitman
Tammany Murphy, can you run for BOE or something if you want to try again?
The Murphys are now learning how much they are hated.
The Yoko Ono syndrome.
Remember Corzine? Corzine, you know. Corzine, Goldman Sachs, he was Governor?
Oh.
Like LBJ. On 1/19/61 he was the Master of the Senate.
On 1/20/61, at 12 Noon, he became a nobody.
Read Caro.
I did read Caro….all 3 volumes.
LBJ was a despicable SOB.
Phil Murphy could run 10 times in a row and still win in a liberal state like NJ. It seems like the other clan inside D party is stronger. End of the day whatever D puke comes out of the internal fights still wins NJ by default.
