Teaneck NJ, on Tuesday nights Teaneck’s council meeting the Teaneck Township Council approved a resolution to appoint seven new members to its planning and zoning boards at Tuesday’s meeting.
All seven appointees were approved by Mayor Michael Pagan, Deputy Mayor 1 Danielle Gee, Deputy Mayor 2 Elie Katz, and Councilwomen Denise Belcher and Hillary Goldberg. Council members Mark Schwartz and Karen Orgen approved some appointees, but they abstained on others with whom they said they were unfamiliar.
The township’s land use boards face major development challenges, including Planning Board hearings on phase 1 of the controversial Holy Name hospital expansion and upcoming redevelopment proposals for the Stop & Shop area on American Legion Drive.
Many in the audience attributed the changes to resident dissatisfaction with how previous boards handled the township’s complex development challenges, particularly the expansion of Holy Name hospital.
Planning Board appointees include:
Denise Belcher: Realtor, who replaced Mark Schwartz.
Chris Brown: City planner, director of Community Development for the city of Hoboken, who replaced Mark Zomick.
Duane Harley: Entertainment attorney who replaced Shahzad Hashmi.
Lucria Ortiz: President and CEO of YMCA of Yonkers, an attorney who replaced Anthony Parker.
Board of Adjustment appointees include:
Shauqat Shaikh: Civil engineer who replaced Mark Mermelstein.
Michael Klatsky: City planner who replaced Daniel Wetrin.
Mueez Ilyas: Accounting, finance professional who replaced Jennifer Prince.
