Ridgewood NJ, the high-profile trial of Nima Momeni, a tech consultant accused of murdering Cash App founder Bob Lee, officially began in San Francisco, over 18 months after Lee’s shocking death. Momeni, 40, stands accused of fatally stabbing the 43-year-old tech executive in an attack allegedly linked to a personal dispute involving Momeni’s younger sister, Khazar.

The incident took place on April 4, 2023. Surveillance footage shows Lee entering the condo building where Khazar lived with her husband, followed by Lee and Momeni leaving together around 2 a.m. The two drove off in Momeni’s car, and just 30 minutes later, Bob Lee was found fatally stabbed in the Rincon Hill neighborhood of San Francisco.

Prosecutors claim Momeni took a knife from his sister’s apartment, lured Lee to a secluded location, and stabbed him three times before fleeing. They argue the attack was premeditated. The defense, however, paints a different picture, stating that Lee, allegedly under the influence of drugs, instigated the confrontation, and that Momeni acted in self-defense. Momeni has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

If convicted, Momeni could face 26 years to life in prison. The trial, which has drawn significant media attention due to its ties to the tech world and the dramatic circumstances of the crime, is expected to continue through mid-December.
