The Ridgewood school district is seeking a director of technology to complement its push to enhance and encourage in-school technology use.
The ideal candidate, Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said in an announcement at Monday’s Board of Education (BOE) meeting, will be a “leader for technology education” and will be entrusted with making sure the district’s technological infrastructure is “robust.”
Previous discussions about the hiring of a new technology director, a district position that had existed and was cut for financial reasons, were met with support from all BOE members, according to the superintendent.
One who can end the lunacy of multiple signons and expiring passwords
I can’t say much about the multiple sign-on, but if you knew anything about network security, expiring passwords (and strong passwords) are essential.
Since the bloated days of Dr. Ritschl and his MIS staff (which rivaled Fortune 1000 company payrolls), the technology at RPS is pretty lame.
Where did the money come from in the budget to afford this position? Why does it come out now after the budget vote? Perhaps a zero increase in the budget was possible. Was the administration and board truthful with the residents of Ridgewood.
I know about network security. Expiring passwords Do not make a more secure system. For those with little experience it gives the illusion of security. There are better systems out there. Ridgewood seems secure because nobody bothers to hack it. The criminals go where the money is.
Why doesn’t Fidelity, Janus, Bank of America or Wells Fargo have expiring passwords? Recent breaches in large security systems by China and Iran have nothing to do with customer passwords.
Security key, register computers or on screen keyboards would be better. The Ridgewood system is very 1990s.
