Tesla Driver Charged After Baseball Bat Road Rage Incident on Route 17

Paramus NJ, a Ridgefield Park man is facing terroristic threats and criminal mischief charges after allegedly attacking another vehicle with a baseball bat during a road rage incident on Route 17, police said.

Road Rage Turns Violent on Route 17

According to Paramus police, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday when a 50-year-old Ridgewood man driving a Honda Odyssey honked at a 2023 silver Tesla that had cut across multiple lanes in front of him.

The Tesla driver, later identified as George Demirdjian, 31, allegedly responded aggressively by:
🚗 Blocking multiple southbound lanes to stop the Honda
🏏 Exiting his vehicle with a 34-inch maple wood baseball bat
⚠️ Jabbing the bat toward the Honda’s front grille

After getting back into his Tesla, Demirdjian recklessly weaved through traffic before pulling alongside the passenger side of the Honda, where he allegedly:
Swung the baseball bat out of his window, hitting the Honda’s door
😡 Made a throat-slashing gesture and yelled, “You’re dead, you’re a loser”

Suspect Identified and Charged

Following an investigation, Det. Sgt. Paul Simone and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department identified Demirdjian as the Tesla’s driver. He later surrendered at Paramus Police Headquarters, where he turned over the 34-inch baseball bat used in the attack.

Charges & Legal Proceedings

🔹 Third-degree terroristic threats
🔹 Fourth-degree criminal mischief

Demirdjian was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on February 28.

  3. Day to day aggressive driving should use #77, when escalated (like this case ) to emergency use 911

    The #77 Dangerous Driver System should be used to report aggressive or erratic driving that poses a risk to other motorists on the roadway. While these calls are important, 9-1-1 calls are prioritized over #77 calls as required by law. In #77 call response, police services are made aware of the report and respond according to availability and proximity to the incident, as well as, seriousness of the report. This system should not be used to report 9-1-1 emergencies.

    1. I have not heard of #77. Can I use it to report individuals who drive 45 mph in a 25 zone during times when kids are walking home from school?
