Major Sale: Ramsey’s Iconic Interstate Shopping Center Changes Hands—What’s Next for Shoppers?

RAMSEY, NJ – One of the most successful retail hubs in North Jersey has a new owner. The Interstate Shopping Center, a staple for Ramsey residents and a high-traffic destination on Franklin Turnpike, was recently sold in a “generational” real estate deal.
As word of the sale spreads through Bergen County, many frequent shoppers are asking the same question: Will my favorite stores be changing?
New Ownership, Same Experience
The 348,763-square-foot center was acquired by a joint venture between New Jersey’s own Crossroads Companies and the New York-based investment firm Wafra.
For those worried about immediate construction or store closures, there is good news. According to CBRE Group Inc., the real estate firm that arranged the partnership, the new owners have no planned changes for the property.
The strategy appears to be “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” A CBRE spokesperson described the location as “one of the best shopping centers on the market” and noted it is currently a “very high-performing” asset.
A Retail Powerhouse in Ramsey
The Interstate Shopping Center last changed hands in the early 1990s, making this a rare and significant transaction for the local economy. Anchored by a high-volume ShopRite, the center serves as a primary grocery and pharmacy destination for the region.
The center’s success is driven by a strong mix of national retailers, including:
-
TJ Maxx
-
Michaels
-
Burlington
-
DSW
“Interstate Shopping Center represented a generational opportunity to acquire a top-performing retail center in a highly sought-after market with significant barriers to entry,” said Colin Behr of CBRE.
Crossroads Companies: A Growing Bergen County Footprint
This acquisition isn’t Crossroads’ first foray into the area. In fact, they are now one of the most prominent commercial landlords in the region. Ramsey joins their extensive portfolio of 13 commercial properties across Bergen County, including sites in:
-
Fair Lawn & Wyckoff
-
Hackensack & Teaneck
-
Hillsdale & New Milford
-
Lyndhurst & Saddle Brook
What This Means for You
While the final sale price hasn’t been disclosed and the deed is still being processed by the Bergen County Clerk’s Office, the transition is expected to be seamless for the public. Shoppers can continue to visit their favorite service providers and retailers at 259 N Franklin Turnpike without interruption.
In a retail climate where many malls are struggling, the sale of the Interstate Shopping Center at a premium proves that Ramsey remains a “Gold Coast” for New Jersey commerce.
