Ridgewood NJ, Saurabh Dani reported on the Facebook page ;”it takes a Ridgewood Village”

According to Dani, the difference between two publicly elected local governing bodies in Ridgewood:

Municipal Budget – Village Council
Less than 31% of our tax dollar goes to municipal budget
Financial contracts are discussed in public, and ALL 5 council members have to agree at a public meeting to add these contracts to “consent agenda” for a vote at the next public meeting.

School budget – Board of Education
More than 67% of our tax dollar goes to School budget
ONE board member has the power to add items to ”consent agenda” and the other board members rely on “trust factor” to approve facilities and financial contracts.

It does appear that the Village Council is far more responsive to the Ridgewood tax payer than the Board of Education.
