Ridgewood NJ, The legacy of a truly remarkable life isn’t measured in accolades, but in the doors opened and the hearts touched. Sandra “Sandy” Ann Bartlett (née Graham), a beloved fixture of Midland Park and formerly of Ridgewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

From her proud Texan roots to her decades of service in Bergen County, Sandy’s life was a masterclass in radical hospitality, community dedication, and ultimate selflessness.

From Texas Roots to a Lifetime of Love

Born on December 18, 1939, in Trenton, NJ, to Harry Edward Graham and Helen Joseph (née McCloskey), Sandy’s early life was full of adventure. Her father’s career took the family to Panama during the construction of the canal before they eventually settled in the Lone Star State. Sandy proudly identified as a Texan, graduating from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas.

In 1961, she earned a degree in Social Work from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, William Charles Bartlett. The couple married and went on to share 63 beautiful years of marriage, building a legacy of family and service that spanned from Chicago to Maine, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and finally, New Jersey.

The Open-Door Legacy of “Mom 2”

Sandy didn’t just study social work; she lived it. She dedicated her life to creating a sanctuary for anyone who needed a helping hand or a warm meal. Throughout her family’s many moves, Sandy’s home became a legendary refuge.

She opened her doors unconditionally to:

  • Foster children in need of stability

  • Neighborhood friends of her children

  • International foreign exchange students

  • Traveling Up with People performers

  • Anyone facing a spell of bad luck

Her boundless warmth left an indelible mark on countless lives. She famously signed notes and cards as “love Mom 2”—a title proudly earned from the many people who found comfort, safety, and family beneath her roof.

A Pillar of the Ridgewood Community

Her community spirit extended into local arts and faith:

  • Local Theatre: She was an active participant in Ridgewood’s iconic Jamboree and College Capers.

  • Faith & Devotion: As a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, she served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister.

  • Social Life: She and her husband Bill were avid Bridge players, forming lifelong friendships over the card table.

A Final, Selfless Gift to Science

Even in death, Sandy’s instinct was to help others. She was adamant that her body be donated to medical science, ensuring that her passing would contribute to the education and training of future medical professionals.

Sandy was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, her parents, and her daughter, Cindy Stanton. She leaves behind a vibrant, loving family, including her children Barbara Bartlett Gomes, Bill III (Monika), son-in-law Ralph Stanton, Jacquie Luthcke (Wayne), and Chris (Valerie).
