Ridgewood NJ, After what happened on Monday, why is Raymond’s still being permitted to have seating on the curb, and their umbrellas literally in the street?

The new Village Manager promised a safety review of all sidewalk cafes. When is that going to take place?
This is clearly a tragedy waiting to happen.

  1. Money talks, nobody walks.

  2. Doesn’t our current mayor, PAUL VAGIANOS, own that building? Maybe that’s why Raymond’s is untouchable?

  5. You had nothing to do today

  6. So Raymond’s puts their umbrella bases in the street? Ballsy.

  7. Slow news? It would be pretty big news if these people enjoying their lunch got hurt. I will never eat on that sidewalk again

    1. don’t eat on a sidewalk, you should eat off of a table

  8. Mayor Paul Vagianos owns that spot and all the spots with excessive outdoor seating, don’t expect any changes.

  9. Village Manager is useless. He’s does the bare minimum to skirt by-fits in with the other pen-pushers at Village Hall.

  10. Public Safety is not a priority for this Administration and the VM doesn’t have the bravery to stand up. As long as it’s bringing money to the Mayor…

  11. Careful what you ask for. Mayor isn’t giving up free outdoor commercial space and promotional visibility that taxpayers pay for. If anything, the VM will be ordered to erect hideous concrete walls for protection, which takes up parking like we see in front of other restaurants.

  12. I’m not eating at any food establishments outside, why would you all the cars going past? People walking past you, what do you think you’re in Paris? No thanks

  13. Does the current seating plan at Raymond’s match the one submitted as part of their 2023 Sidewalk Cafe permit application?

  14. Dont sit there

  15. Ridgewood taxpayers wake up. You are forking the bill for these establishments to get free commercial space and marketing visibility. Start charging these businesses market value-commercial square footage (for the outdoor seating areas) and see how fast they stay inside.

    1. Same as At Habernickel. Tax payers pay for a business to use 11 acres of park property. Does the business insure the whole 11 acres in case one of her customers gets hurt outside of her leased space? Think about it!!!!

  16. Who bears the liability for sidewalk incidents that occur at outdoor seating locations?

    1. Same as the business in Habernickel that uses all 11 acres. I am sure they do not carry insurance for all 11 acres

  17. How about cleaning up behind the buildings and alleyways, they are dirty

  18. the negativity of restaurants outdoor seating is one of the reasons ridgewood has gone downhill the past 5 years it use to be a very nice town to live and shop in but not now

everyone is always complaining about something where are the positive ideas to make things
    better ??

  19. What about the rodents.

    1. Squirrels have to eat, too.

There is only so much food that can be found in the average handbag.

  20. That place is like a tourist trap you go there once or you don’t go back. The food is overrated, and it’s expensive and the chairs are very uncomfortable. I don’t need to spend $40 for two people for breakfast.
