The United States Military Academy at West Point, also known as USMA or simply West Point, is a four-year coeducational federal service academy located in West Point, New York. It was established in 1802 and is the oldest of the United States’ five service academies.
The mission of West Point is to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States Army.
West Point is highly selective and admission is based on a candidate’s academic, physical, and leadership potential. Cadets receive a rigorous education that combines military training with a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum. Upon graduation, they receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
West Point has a long and distinguished history, and its graduates include many famous military leaders and public figures, such as Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur, and George Patton.
