Ridgewood Resident Steve Kim explained the significance of the Lunar New Year in a Facebook post :
The Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and reunion for families and communities, and it is often marked by a variety of traditional customs and rituals. These can include decorating homes with red lanterns and paper cuttings, and giving gifts of money to children. The holiday is also marked by special foods and meals, which can vary depending on the region and cultural traditions of the people celebrating. Overall, the Lunar New Year is an important cultural holiday that is celebrated by many people around the world, and the year of the rabbit is considered to be a particularly auspicious and lucky year. Get tickets (before they sell out) for the Ridgewood Lunar New Year Festival for wonderful performances and foods: ridgewoodaapi.org. Many volunteers are working hard to make this a special event, and thanks to the sponsors, ticket prices are very reasonable.”
