Ridgewood NJ, the Valley Hospital is excited to announce the arrival of its new positron emission tomography/ computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner, the Siemens Biograph Vision 450, which is now available for use. The new PET/CT scanner was replacing Valley’s former PET/CT scanner, providing patients with the most advanced technology available.

A positron emission tomography scan (PET scan) is a type of imaging test used for diagnosing numerous diseases in an individual’s body. This scan highlights parts of the body where there are increased rates of certain chemical activities. A PET scan can tell a patient’s doctor about how their body uses oxygen, how their body processes glucose, and about their blood flow. These scans can give a patient’s doctor insight into problems occurring at the cellular level. This helps them identify and evaluate certain complex systemic conditions and diseases, including heart problems and brain disorders. Around two million PET scans are performed annually in the United States.

Individuals need these scans. As they diagnose many conditions, they are vital for receiving the necessary treatment. For instance, these scans help direct the best cancer treatment, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy for cancer. The scans show the effectiveness of the treatment as well. These scans also accurately diagnose heart conditions, helping doctors determine where surgery and medications for heart disease are appropriate. Of course, patients must understand how positron emission tomography scans work first.

Siemens Biograph Vision 450 is the next generation of PET/CT scanners that enables technologists to obtain images with the highest level of precision and detail. The digital scanner is equipped with FlowMotion artificial intelligence (AI) technology, efficiently scanning only the desired area. This efficiency reduces the duration of the scan, provides greater patient comfort, and decreases unnecessary exposure to CT radiation.

“The Valley Hospital updated our scanner to provide patients with the most advanced technology currently on the market. The Biograph Vision 450 is state-of-the-art, providing the highest resolution scans,” said Kristien Zingone, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at The Valley Hospital. “Improved resolution can significantly improve disease detection.”

The PET/CT scanner is now located in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at The Valley Hospital. Previously, PET/CT services have been performed in a mobile unit for the past 13 years.

“Our beautiful PET/CT Suite is ultra-modern, providing a comfortable, relaxing environment for our patients,” said Kristien. “It is equipped with private waiting rooms; private bathrooms; and mood-enhancing LED lighting, wall imagery, and skylight above the patient table.”

The Biograph Vision 450 is available at The Valley Hospital’s main campus. To schedule an appointment, please call 201-447-8200.
