Mahwah NJ, Last Friday, July 22nd, the Township of Mahwah completed its purchase of Norfolk Village – a 75 Unit – senior citizen apartment complex.

Upon closing the transaction, Mayor Jim Wysocki remarked, “This is a huge win for Mahwah and our most valuable assets, our senior citizen population. They can rest at ease that the Township will have housing available to them as they enter their golden years. By proactively addressing the issue of senior affordability, this Council and Administration have done an amazing thing for our Township for years to come.”
Norfolk Village is a 75-unit apartment building located off of Franklin Turnpike, near Franklin Heights. Each unit is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom residence. The purchase of the complex will be self-sustaining with rents paying for capital improvements, management of the building, and debt service.

Councilman Robert Ferguson called the purchase of Norfolk Village “A legacy project for this Council. By using our resources to create long-term housing for our Township’s seniors, we have ensured that generations of families will always be able to call Mahwah home. It is an accomplishment we can all be proud of.” Along with providing affordable housing for Mahwah’s senior population, the Township will also be given credits towards its affordable housing obligations.
“Aside from providing affordable senior housing, from a development standpoint, these 75 units will prevent approximately 300 new market rate units from being developed in town”, said Council President David May. “In addition to maintaining affordable units in perpetuity, I am happy to be part of one of the most significant endeavors the Council has done in the history of the town.”

  1. Don’t want to work hard to get yourself into a good neighborhood? No worries, move to NJ where every town must offer housing to the lazy.

    1. You heard it here first, folks. Seniors=Lazy.

  2. Bet you the math doesn’t include the loss of tax revenue.
That’s why politicians can never be trusted.
