Twp. of Washington NJ, on February 20 2024 at approximately 4:20 AM, Township of Washington Police responded to the Northeast Side of the Township to assist Hillsdale Police Department who had multiple vehicles entered in their town, on our border.

While assisting with the canvass, Officers encountered items in the roadway of which some that were consistent with proceeds from the vehicles entered in Hillsdale.  During the canvass, a Township Officer observed a male party exit a running vehicle, and upon spotting the Patrol car, re-entered the vehicle and start to leave the area.  Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop and identified the male party as a Township resident.

Later that morning, Officers responded to a residence in the Township in which a car was entered during the overnight hours.  Due to the resident providing pictures and videos, as well as the quick observations and actions of our Township Officer, we were able to match the driver of the vehicle to the individual who was seen on video entering the vehicle in Township.  During the joint investigation with Hillsdale Police, they were able to match the suspect we had to the multiple cars that were entered in their town during that morning.  In conjunction with the Hillsdale Police Departments investigation, the Township of Washington Police Department announce the arrest of Tyler Giordano for Burglary, Criminal Attempt and receiving stolen property.  Defendant was also charged by Hillsdale Police Department with theft, 7 counts of burglary and criminal attempt.  A warrant was issued for his arrest, at which point he turned himself in to the Hillsdale Police Department.

Criminal Charges and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Township Police want to remind residents that burglaries, whether vehicle or residential, occur more often during the winter months due to the fact there are fewer daylight hours.  This gives burglars more time to be concealed by darkness.  Burglars are opportunists.  Eliminate opportunities for them by locking doors, removing valuables and not leaving key fobs/keys in your vehicle.  Make sure if you are not home, you have lights on timers and deliveries stopped or redirected elsewhere.  The idea is to make it appear someone is home.  Any questions or concerns on this manner please contact our Police Desk at 201-664-1140.
