Mahwah NJ, All lanes on Route 17 North in Mahwah have reopened following a crash involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. The two left lanes on the southbound side remain closed north of Route 202.
That crash happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The truck overturned, spilling lemons all over the highway and causing damage. Details about what led to the crash remain unclear, but it appears the tractor-trailer and another vehicle collided.
New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced Route 17 northbound was expected to remain closed through the evening commute for emergency sign structure repairs following an overturned tractor trailer in Mahwah, on Wednesday . A tractor trailer traveling on Route 17 northbound overturned around 10 am in the morning spilling its cargo of fruit.
All lanes were closed in both directions. Around noon, one lane on Route 17 southbound was reopened. An overhead sign structure was struck, but it was not knocked down. However, NJDOT engineers determined the structure needs to be removed. Route 17 northbound was expected to remain closed through the evening commute and should reopen later Wednesday evening.
Route 17 southbound was expected to have lane closures with at least one lane open until the work is complete. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and plan an alternate route.
