Fort Lee NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ALEXANDER MERCADO (DOB: 11/30/1982; married; unemployed) of 2458 1st Street, Apt. 1, Fort Lee, NJ on a money laundering charge. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.

On December 19, 2022, during a money laundering investigation, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle travelling through Bergen County and being operated by ALEXANDER MERCADO. A search of the vehicle revealed that MERCADO was transporting $31,680.00 in U.S. currency believed to be derived from criminal activity.

As a result of the investigation, ALEXANDER MERCADO was placed under arrest without incident and charged with third-degree money laundering, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25a(1). MERCADO was released on his own recognizance pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and thanks the Fort Lee Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
