New Milford NJ, A two-car collision in New Milford on Wednesday morning led to a high-pressure gas leak and the evacuation of several homes, according to police.

The crash, which involved a four-door sedan and a pickup truck, occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Boulevard and Madison Avenue, said New Milford Capt. Nicholas DiGenio. Thankfully, the occupants of both vehicles were not injured.

One of the vehicles veered off the road during the crash and struck a gas vent pipe, resulting in a high-pressure leak, DiGenio reported. As a precaution, residents in nearby homes were evacuated.

PSE&G quickly responded to the scene, and crews managed to temporarily control the leak. By 10 a.m., the area was deemed safe, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

New Milford police and fire departments remained on site late into Wednesday morning while workers repaired the damaged gas line, a process expected to take some time. As of 10:30 a.m., Boulevard at Madison Avenue was closed, with detours in place, according to a police Facebook post.
