Ridgewood NJ, Two (2) NJ Transit buses were involved in a “T-Bone” collision at the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and North Walnut Street on Monday evening, 10/16. One (1) of the buses veered head on into the path of an SUV in an attempt to avoid the collision. The adult female driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries but refused transport to a local hospital. The SUV and one (1) bus had to be towed from the scene. The other bus left on its own power. Ridgewood Police, Fire Department, EMS and Emergency Services units responded to the crash.
Like I always said over and over New Jersey transit buses fly through the CBD all day all night someone needs to do something about that someone’s going to get killed.
Don’t we have cops who are supposed to deal with traffic issues? Oh, sorry I forgot, we only have 3 cops in total and they’re busy working for PSEG.
Never have seen a NJT bus getting a summons in the village and they consistently break traffic laws. Are they exception by the village police.
I have never seen a cop out of a car in town except when working for PSEG.
What happened to community policing?
Sadly, once the 400 apartment units, fueled by former Mayor Aronson’s wet dreams and his slavish devotion to developers, are built, accidents like this in our downtown could become a recurring event. It is too late for us to stop the apartment projects, but not too late to take other actions. Urge the Village council to impose and enforce 15 to 20 mile an hour speed limits in our downtown areas. This will help ensure the safety of our Villagers during the massive construction about to take place and once the 400 new families move in.
Even one accident and certainly one death is going to be one too many. Let’s take back control of our Village.
They been flying for the CBD for years constantly hitting people’s mirrors on Ridgewood Avenue I’ve never seen aggressive drivers like New Jersey transit. They think they own the road
The other problem, the one the village refuses to even consider, centers on the relatively narrow lanes on Ridgewood Avenue in the CBD.
Buses routinely cross the center line while driving on Ridgewood Ave, forcing opposing traffic dangerously close to parked cars. Visit our neighboring towns. Their sidewalks are a bit narrower and their main streets are a bit wider.
Wider lanes would prevent the frequent near head on collisions between buses and other vehicles. They would also give drivers a better view of pedestrians crossing at intersections.
In addition, the location of the bus station in the CBD may be convenient, but our streets are poorly designed for vehicles of that size, endangering pedestrians and other drivers alike. Are there alternate station locations that would still allow access to the CBD while keeping buses off of Ridgewood Ave in the CBD? Perhaps on Maple?
BAN ALL BUSSES!
Make the CBD a Walking Plaza!
.
It would be worth it to SAVE JUST ONE Adult Female Driver.

Burlington, VT closed the main shopping street, Church Street, to vehicular traffic. That helped rejuvenate downtown Burlington as a shopping center.
