Two Teenagers Shot and One Arrested After High School Football Game in Wayne

Wayne NJ, a tragic incident unfolded at a high school football game in Wayne, New Jersey, on Friday night, leaving two teenagers injured and another in custody. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office reported that the shooting occurred after a game at Passaic County Tech’s Reinhardt Road athletic field, following their matchup against Lenape High School from Medford, South Jersey.

According to the prosecutor’s office, a 16-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed due to their age, has been charged with acts of juvenile delinquency. If the suspect were an adult, these charges would include attempted murder and two weapons offenses.

The shooting took place around 7:30 p.m., with officers from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office on the scene. They quickly located two victims, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, who had both sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds. The injured teens were immediately transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where they are receiving treatment.

Following the incident, police set up a roadblock in Wayne as they investigated the scene and gathered evidence.

Lenape High School issued a statement confirming that none of its students or staff were involved in or injured during the shooting. “Our thoughts are with the individuals harmed and the Passaic Technical Institute Community,” the school said.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact their tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or via email at tips@passaiccountynj.org. The community remains shaken as authorities continue their investigation into this alarming event.

    “Two (female) teens, 15 and 16, were found with gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said. Their injuries were non-life-threatening, officials said, but they remain hospitalized.

    A 16-year-old (male) was taken into custody and charged with “acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of Attempted Murder, first degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, if the juvenile was an adult,” according to the prosecutor’s office. ”
