Atlantic City NJ, during holiday weekend, the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau will be out in full force, patrolling our state’s waterways to ensure the safety of the recreational boating community. With nearly 12 million recreational vessels registered across the United States, it’s more important than ever to prioritize safety on the water.
In 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard reported 3,844 boating incidents, resulting in 564 tragic fatalities, 2,126 injuries, and an estimated $63 million in property damage. These numbers are a sobering reminder of the need for caution and preparedness.
To help ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water, remember these key safety tips:
ALWAYS USE A SPOTTER when water skiing or engaging in other towing activities.
WEAR A LIFE VEST at all times, regardless of your swimming ability or the type of watercraft you’re using.
EXERCISE SOUND JUDGMENT whether you’re piloting a motorized boat, paddling a kayak, or wakeboarding.
Your safety is our priority. Let’s work together to make this holiday weekend both fun and safe for everyone on the water. Stay safe and enjoy your time outdoors!
