Ridgewood NJ, Several days ago we informed you of a Facebook account being used by a Village Council member to communicate with residents about Village business/issues. We are pleased to report that a banner/logo associated with the previous of use of the account in an election campaign, has now been removed and replaced with a banner/logo more suited to its present use. However, we still don’t know if anyone is being blocked from viewing the account, or from making comments thereon.

And to be fair, and not single out just one member of the Village Council who is using social media to communicate with residents, most Council members have what we would classify as “official” social media accounts. That is, accounts created & maintained for the sole purpose of sharing information about matters likely of interest to residents. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Mayor Paul Vagianos – Facebook and Instagram
  • Deputy Mayor Pamela Perron – Facebook and Instagram
  • Councilwoman Lorraine Reynolds – no “official” social media accounts found
  • Councilman Evan Weitz – no “official” social media accounts found
  • Councilwoman Siobhan Winograd – Facebook and Instagram

As we understand the State of NJ rules pertaining to “official” social media accounts, blocking is strongly discouraged; if anyone is blocked, a list of who those people are must be made available to anyone who requests it. Also, commenting must be open to all. If any comments are deleted, a record of what was deleted must be maintained and made available to anyone who requests same.

Be sure to check out what’s being posted on the aforementioned pages and, be sure to let The Ridgewood Blog know if you’re blocked from seeing any of the noted pages.

  1. Should be interesting. These are people that aren’t really interested in opposing points of view.

    1. Definition of a liberal

  2. Why, pray tell, would anyone want to see what Siobhan is posting???? Go ahead and block me, biotch, I don’t care

    1. Two words . . .opposition research.

  3. I just heard that the mayor has blocked at least one taxpayer from seeing posted notes on his OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE regarding Schedler. This is unlawful.
