Village Council Reorganization: Grandstanding, Cat-fights and They Still Can’t get the Sound Right

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Just when pandemic pathos has gotten us all into a completely lethargic state, suddenly the Village Council Reorganization meeting was brought into our living rooms thanks to modern technology.  This certainly shook up a bunch of viral particles from my mask!

A few observations from the edge of my couch, in no particular order:

1.     So you had Jeff the Voigt who rambled on forEVER about all his imaginary accomplishments (there were none), and all the people who helped him out (this is a list of people you would want to avoid at all costs).  He praised himself endlessly for being such a fine representative of the citizens of Ridgewood, being civil and transparent, and waxed poetical about what a fine upstanding person he is.  Guess he forgot screaming at Heather Mailander “I am fucking pissed” when she fulfilled an OPRA.  Guess he forgot calling a resident a douchebag at a public meeting on mic.  Guess he forgot countless times he body-shamed a resident.  Guess he forgot a certain road-rage incident that we all know about.  Guess he forgot a lot when he characterized himself as civil.  He slammed all the people who post anonymous nasty comments on social media (he is the KING of nasty anonymous comments as well as those with his name attached).  He went on and on with an anti-social media rant, when in fact he was taken to task for violating the social media policy by blocking people.  He talked about how honest he is, when he has lied over and over and over again, even to a judge in Hackensack.  Oh, and there were falsehoods on police reports.  Blackmail attempt.  Then he started supporting this One Village One Vote thing, which many of us had no information about but if Voigt is supporting it then it will be dead in the water.  He stated that this OVOV thing would provide better candidates (I think he said “more qualified,” how nice, slamming everyone that just got elected) – does he even hear himself????  He is talking about civility while slamming Pam Perron and Lorraine Reynolds who just got elected?  And by the way, EVERYONE else thanked their families, but Voigt’s did not get a mention.  Even though he thanked about 30,000 other people by name.  What a guy!  Good riddance.

So that was one low-light of the meeting.  But it had only just begun.

2.     Then there was the kerfuffle about the Deputy Mayor position.  In her commentary, Bernadette said she had been offered the Deputy Mayor position three weeks prior, which she had happily accepted.  Then she said Susan called and retracted the offer and that Mike was going to be the DM.  Bernadette was pissed.  Gloves were off.  Bernadette nastily quoted Lorraine Reynolds and a commentary she made a few years ago.  Pam Perron seemed to side with Bernadette on this, but the acoustics were really bad.   From what we were able to hear, the vote for Mike for DM was three in favor, Pam was a garbled no, and Bernadette was an abstain.  Not getting off to a good start here.  Mike Sedon in the middle of a 4-gal catfight????

3.     Then we had the acoustics.  Oh my god.  We have been in quarantine for maybe thirty or forty weeks now.  Can they get this together yet???  The phone number was not posted on the screen to call in, or I would have called in a comment or two for sure.  There was so much echoing and reverberations going on.  Some people you could not hear at all (Pam Perron particularly).  Others you could hear and then suddenly &^%$ )(*&^%$#@!  We could not hear any of the swearing-in.  None.  Who is in charge of technology?  Whatever they’re being paid it is TOO MUCH.

4.     Finally, what is with some people not wearing masks?  We can understand that up on the altar, so to speak, they are very distanced.  But some people seemed to be moseying about without masks and getting very close to others, touching, grabbing upper arms, etc.  We have a pandemic going on people, stay safe.

  4. Let’s not forget about the escapade at Home Hardware in Waldwick during which Voigt got “belligerent” (quote from police report) with 3 uniformed Waldwick police officers who responded to a complaint of a verbal dispute taking place at that location. What a guy that Voigt.

  5. FIRE DYLAN HANSEN NOW! This guy fucks up anything he touches. What is the matter with you Heather? The sound sucks, it has sucked for years, and you still keep this guy on the payroll. Does he have nude photos of you or something? Good grief.

  7. Good Riddance to Voigt. I saw him arguing with police outside Home Hardware in Waldwick a couple weeks ago. About what I have no idea but he was right up in their face. In the middle of a pandemic. Confrontation seems to follow this guy around.

  8. If I didn’t see his name in your item #1, I would have thought you were talking about Trump

  9. Good summary. You forgot the caller whom vogit named as super volunteer. I was waiting for her to make a point. She kept bragging about her friendship with Ramon and had no other point to make.

  10. The lowest moment in Voigt’s sermon was when he quoted a Holocaust survivor. What audacity he had to quote that magnificent man. And he’s pretending that he’s a champion of the people? Voigt is the oppressor not the oppressed he is really delusional. So glad he’s gone

  11. Her royal majesties sour facial expressions during Ms. Walsh’s comments was very telling. This council needs to straighten up under her realm. After all, this is a class act.

  12. hmmmm Walsh is top vote-getter. . .and knudsen and sedon do a backroom deal to freeze her out of mayor and deputy mayor spot. . . great start for the Council.

They aren’t even trying to cover up their backroom deals. James – why don’t you write more about that???????

  13. And just like that Susan, Mike and Lorraine lost the respect of our Village. Bernie used Lorraine’s own words to show her hippocracy.

  14. Is there a written rule that the top vote person needs to be the mayor? If no then there is nothing illegal here. I am not fan of anyone from previous regimes even though I voted for them to keep out the scary ones. My mayor preference would be for someone who hasn’t held the position before and I am not really crazy about SK being mayor again. I am glad we have 2 new faces in there and Hache and Voigt are gone. Good riddance to both of them.
I hope the first step for this new VC is getting rid of Mailander and finding someone who really understands village management.

  15. what did Bernie do on the council in last four years?

  16. Susan, Mike and Lorraine did not lose the respect of the Village. Are you for real? Bernie would have been a terrible mayor or deputy mayor. She is a liar. Truth from behind the scenes is that no one “promised” her the DM position. Bernie was playing the drama queen and everyone saw right through it. She is NOT a supporter of the people, not even close. I have watched her shenanigans for years. Most recently she has been sympathetic to and supportive of Voigt. She is nasty and she is vindictive. That’s all I need to know.

Fully support Susan, Mike, and Lorraine. They are ACES.

Pam? Not able to support anyone who was holding hands with Siobhan and Rurik. No way. Ever.

  17. Not sure you are right about Voigt’s not thanking his family.

  18. Truth from behind the scenes? Please tell us what happened then. She sounded pretty convincing. And I’ve never known her to be a liar. And no one objected to what she said on the dais.

  19. I could not agree more with The Blog’s recap of the meeting. I did lose respect for Susan, Mike and Lorraine. I voted for all of them in their respective elections. I have observed and sometimes participated in council meetings for over 35 years. We have protocols and precedents for good reason. Bernie served for 8 years and was the highest vote getter in the May12 th election. I believe she deserved to be Mayor and I tried my best to persuade past and current council members that this would be a good thing for all concerned. I failed. I never expected that she would not at least be named Deputy Mayor. Susan and Mike have already served in that capacity. All council members have the same powers. Bernie would have run the meetings professionally. It would have been an acknowledgment of her previous service and big win. Regarding Jeff Voigt, there is nothing left to say that hasn’t been said already. He must not have read anything about the average person’s attention span. He read a speech that was about 1/2 too long.

  20. She’s lying about this.

  21. When Pam was speaking, it sounded like a robot reading the script written by JJ

  22. I’m sure Susan will clear all this up at the next meeting. And if you believe that I have a garage to sell you.

  23. Voigt did NOT even mention his family. After thanking a gazillion douchebags

  24. Walsh said she was offered the position of deputy mayor then knudsen called a meeting? Sounds like only backroom deal done by Walsh.
Isn’t calling a meeting the right way of doing things? Wasn’t the yesterday meeting the vote? Walsh didn’t get nominated.
Sounds like Walsh was nasty and undeserving. Good for knudsen.

  25. Bernie told the truth. I admire her for speaking it at the Council Meeting. Only one person and entire family not wearing masks. I noticed some were very uncomfortable with her up close and personal contact. I think it is in everyone’s best interest to wear a mask in group settings which take place indoors.

  26. What has Mike done except plant some trees and talk about eating bears.

  27. Bernie did not tell the truth. No one, not Susan, not anyone, was able to “offer” her the position of Deputy Mayor or Mayor or anything else. It is done by vote, and Bernie knows this. She was making a pitiful attempt to look like a backroom deal had taken place. Total bullshit. The vote happened yesterday, and even if the five of them had semi-agreed in advance of the reorg meeting, the bottom line is it all could have switched up at the meeting itself. It was not a done deal until the nominations and votes took place. When the call came for nominations, Bernie could have immediately nominated herself if she wanted and let the vote happen. She is such a liar. She has been through a bunch of reorg meetings, she knows the procedure.

Bernie made a horribly embarrassing (for her) mistake of trying to make Susan look bad when in fact she wound up looking like the jackass she is.

  28. Deals are made all the time. Bernie did not embarrass herself. People talk privately. All you have to do is contact 2 other council members and then vote for yourself. That is exactly what Susan did. Not hard to get a majority with only 5 council members and two of them are your friends. Who can forget the Three Infamous Amigos? They voted as a threesome even as countless citizens spoke out at meetings for different outcomes.

  29. Can we OPRA those meetings?

  30. Bernie is not liked. And not likable. And she is not a fan of citizen input on anything. She has said as much on more than one occasion. I am glad she did not get a title.

    2
    3
  31. Can’t OPRA them if Bernie has any say in the matter. She hates OPRA.

  32. Yes. This is disgusting. Shameless – and hypocritical- behavior by Knudsen, Sedon and Reynolds.

  33. You should be able to get the archived minutes if they haven’t lost them in techno space.

  34. Sleazy is the world. Apologists of course don’t think so and are making idiotic excuses. A joke for a town.

  35. Yes. You can OPRA those meeting as soon as they approved by the Council majority. You think that will happen?

  36. You get the government you vote for. Whoops! Susan and Mike grabbed the government you will get with their unscrupulousness back room dealings. Mike is Susan’s bitch. He kept his head down during the whole meeting. Maybe the whole “story” about the Amigos contacting his former employer is fiction? But let’s face it, there is a whole new three amigos on the council. Ridgewood, a Village in Turmoil.

  37. # the 3 Amigas .

  38. To the poster saying Walsh would run a “professional” meeting, I guess Walsh proved you wrong. Her behavior was classless and unprofessional.
Perrin or Walsh could have advanced her nomination. Why didn’t they? Not having the votes to be deputy mayor doesn’t mean Walsh should behave badly. She should apologize for her unprofessional and petty behavior. Reading one crass comment exposes the disgusting behavior Walsh encourages.

Perrin sounded like a muffled robot and was terrible. Didn’t even take her own advice.

  41. ” Walsh should behave badly. She should apologize for her unprofessional and petty behavior.” Apologize for the truth!

  42. What was Walsh crying about? That she did not have majority votes?
Well, you can’t sail on two boats at the same time. You either take support from corrupt people in town or you get support from those who are following the rules. Those who follow the rules have supported you for all these years and in the last four years, and especially during the election, you demonstrated that you were willing to get support of corrupts just because you were not elected Mayor 4 years ago. Now don’t repeat this for next four years.

  43. Victoria Burpee, whoever she or he is, sure made a fool out of Jeffrey Douchebag Voigt. He was shown, and not for the first time, to be the vindictive, crazed idiot that he is, fighting against citizens’ legal right to get information anonymously from the Open Public Records Act. The judge threw him out on his ass. And his wife was furious that he incurred a huge legal fee for his bullying folly, she was heard telling people how pissed she was.
