the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, 4 American Bald Eagles and a black crested heron , all on the endangered species list. According to the Conserve Wildlife Foundation Bald Eagles are extremely sensitive to human disturbance. At no time should anyone approach nesting eagles. People who want to observe or photograph eagles and who come too close may actually cause the birds to abandon a nest. In 2014, there were 156 pairs of bald eagles monitored in the state of New Jersey. Apparently the Village of Ridgewood is well aware https://mods.ridgewoodnj.net/…/2015schedlergrantupdate.pdf if see Page 16 of a document Roberta signed . Unfortunately the page was magically removed from the Village website.
That’s our Village Manager, what a sweet and sensitive gal. July 1, introduce the ordinance to remove her.
Oh that Ellie is a clever one….
I don’t see any personal, independent opinion from our VM. From what I have seen, she is simply in search of a regular, well-paid job. She was hired to be a rubber-stamping VM by the Mayor.
The PDF linked in this document lists 100,000 and 83000 two quotes for tree / stump removal. Also it lists 37 dumpsters to remove those free debries.(assuming garage will fit in 1-2). So if they can calculate exact amount of dumpsters to be 37, then they should be able to tell us how many trees are they planning to remove? I recently paid 500 per tree, so for 100,000 are they planning to remove 200 trees? Also each dumpster is listed at $1100, do they really cost 1100? I called a few companies here and 20 yarders are for 495. Lastly the estimate is signed in April 2015, and exact amounts bids are submitted in Nov 2015. So the third party who submitted bid for garage and tree removal, came up with exact number which was estimated in April by internal village employees?
An investigative reporter could write an entire series about backstage bidding around here.
Might be time to cash out and sell before this gets any worse and Values go in the Toilet. There are many here who are still quite mobile with Kids long out of Rwood Schools and College phases. This mismanagement constantly costs taxpayers money..throw in unneeded full day kindergarten…free babysitting with no scholastic benefit while parents at Yoga or Coffee Clubs.theres a limit to Tax burdens neighbors..
Well, if there was a bald eagle or heron, video taking residents may have frightened them away; also crowds of residents who go into the area to have their photos taken for purposes of being designated Develop Don’t Destroy saviors.
2:47, your comments intelligence tells us exactly who you are.
Thank you James for this article. Ever since I’ve learned about The Schedler Bald Eagles I have been reading up on them. In 1782 the Bald Eagle became the national/ bird symbol of the USA. It was chosen because it was native to North America and known for its ” majestic beauty, great strength and longevity.” In 1940, the Bald Eagle was protected under the National Emblem Act . During the years of DDT use, their numbers shrank at an alarming rate. They are now on the endangered species list and cannot be ” hassled, sold, killed or disturb their nesting sites.” I don’t know a single kid/ young adult who would choose a 90 foot field if it meant the loss of the woods that have become a possible home for two pairs of American Bald Eagles. We can have a smaller field, save the woods, protect the neighbors from noise and particle pollution and protect our national bird at a cost of nothing! What a great deal. Now to convince the council majority and the village manager.
Hmmm…the noise on R17 doesn’t seem to bother the eagles and the heron….
That seems to be true. Their natural habitats are shrinking and they are looking for nesting places all along the busy highways, turnpikes etc. where the can gather dead wood. They build huge nests. They check an area out long before they lay their eggs and maybe noise isn’t one of their concerns.
If they want dead wood the should go to the next council meet. There are 3 old logs there
Why does the Village own this property? Shouldn’t it just be sold instead of raising taxes on everyone?
Where the hell have you been 8:22. do some research
The Develop Don’t Destroy group is not good enough for the birds.
Thanks 9:27, I have done some research and don’t see why the Village is in the business of owning property that can’t be redeveloped without eliciting this type of response. Just sell it.
