A special reminder to those who have spoken out in opposition to “Council majority” proposals –

Ridgewood NJ, Per section 249-1 of the Village Code, all snow and/or ice must be removed from sidewalks abutting Village streets within 24 hours after a snow storm has ended.  And, the snow and/or ice that you do remove may not be placed in the street so as to impede the flow of traffic.

Based on the enforcement efforts VIllage Manager Roberta Sonenfeld directed toward compliance of the Village’s leaf removal regulations, I suspect the same level of enforcement, or greater, to be directed at compliance of Village snow and ice removal regulations.

And if you don’t think that someone at Village Hall is closely watching the properties of those us who speak out against them, just knock on some doors in the neighborhood surrounding the Irene Habernickel Family Park and ask what happened to some of the TAXPAYERS up there who spoke out publicly against the plan to house HealthBarn USA at 1057 Hillcrest Road.

Remember folks, “Somebody’s going to pay for that.” (Although, it was not meant as a threat.)

  1. Roberta has a new stop watch. She will be out watching for the first snowflake to fall. Tick Tock . She even bought the new Code Enforcement Officer a couple of new pens. They need the money for the garage.

  2. Well the resident on Clinton Ave don’t have worry about it nor does Big Al because they don’t have sidewalks

  3. Is it true that they’re planning to install sidewalks in front of Dana Glazer’s house on Clinton Avenue just to bust his balls?

  4. What happened in Municipal Court last week? I heard that over 300 angry residents showed up complaining about the leaf removal summonses that were issued. Anybody have specifics?

  5. Snow and ice removal in the CBD is rarely if ever enforced. The same can be said for the rest of the village even though most people comply.

  6. I hope the Village tickets the Chamber of Commerce members with the same vigilance as they do the residential residents.

  7. @10:09am: It depends upon your interpretation of “most of the Village”. There are far too may residents who don’t clear their sidewalk. This is arguably understandable in the case of the elderly and infirm, but many of these slackers are able-bodied. Gone are the days when a sense of neighborliness kept you in line. Ticket the crap out of them, I say.

  8. I don’t mean that as a threat, Albert Pucciarelli’s legacy to the Village of Ridgewood. He signed the end of his political career in this town when he issued that THREAT. Love it.

  9. FACT, FACT, FACT (to quote RSBA Man Delzio) – they are definitely targeting those who speak out at Council meetings.

  10. Years ago, the Village had a list of people/businesses that shoveled snow.. There was some problem within insurance I believe. Many elderly people really are under the gun to get the shoveling done and we have fewer and fewer young people going door to door. I think the village ought to be able to give people some guidance on this. If they’re going to ticket us can they not provide a list of businesses that can do the job if needed?

  11. That is one amazing chunk of ice!

  12. Ain’t no way that they can enforce this properly…if so then it could be a financial winfall for the Village since so many of my neighbors fail to do their civic duty. And I live near a school !

  13. I always shovel. I clear to the curb. The village plows always build a high wall of snow at the cutout by driving the plow directly into the corner. I will shovel the snow but I will not clean up after the lazy plow drivers. If the village creates a hazard they are responsible.

Maybe the brainiacs can put their heads together and THINK before acting.

  14. Update the pothole app to report the lazy inconsiderate residents who do not clear their sidewalks

  15. 7:38 that’s a brilliant idea, however nobody likes a snitch. Plus, there are people on the Village payroll who are suppose to take care of that duty.

  16. For the summons – the village manager will blame the neighbors. Hey your neighbor reported you, so we had to issue a summons – we did not want to issue it. Nasty thing to cause issues between neighbors to pay the salary of newly appointed white elephants and code enforcement officer. I am pretty sure 600 neighbors in Ridgewood are not going to report their neighbors.
